Easy Majors- College of Communications?

Just wanted to know the easier majors to get in UT. Heard one was college of communications but some say its more competitive, help me out.

Try Liberal Arts. The Comm school is not easy to get into.

i believe geosciences is the easiest of all schools to get into. that or education or social work or dance or something.

My major is like Comm. Stds. whatever that is.

I’m planning on applying as a transfer into advertising for Fall 2011. I haven’t seen many stats for external transfers like myself, but I believe it’s pretty competitive.

You can do it, ozzy906! I did it. As long as you get the required B in ADV318J, you’re solid. If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll be happy to help :)

I’m pretty sure that he was asking what is the hardest major to graduate with, not the easiest to get accepted with.

That being said, Communication Studies is HANDS DOWN the easiest major to get good grades with. My friend is dumb as rocks and has a 3.7 in Communications with Advertising. She said she even gets to re-take some tests if she doesn’t do well enough.

Liberal Arts is NOT a blowoff. While it is an open school and everyone accepted to UT gets into Liberal Arts (just like Natural Sciences), it is by no means an easy degree to get a 4.0 in. Unlike Engineering, Natural Sciences and Business, Liberal Arts has no curves, and your grade is set as is. I’m a Classics major, and I bet you that it’s a lot tougher than 95% of the majors at UT.

I’m asking what is the easier majors to get in with, and is communications one of them.

Juan, how could you misinterpret such a simple question? :x

Communications is one of the hardest to get in with…right behind Cockrell and McCombs. That is not to say it is one of the hardest majors, because it is not…just harder to get in to initially.

Does anyone have suggestions about the Public Relations major?

Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences are fairly easy to get into. Communications isn’t that easy to get into, but it’s not as hard as Mccomb’s.

Communications may have easier subject material, but I believe you can get more jobs with it than you can with a major in Classics.

Speaking of the college of communications, has anyone who is non top 8% heard back from this particular school this month? I am wondering if they have started sending out acceptances to fall 2011 freshmen communication major applicants.

according to UT’s website its easier to get into communication then many other colleges, so i dont know what you all are talking about…

uhm… where do you see that? i’ve never heard college of communications being an easy college to get into. from what i understand, it’s mccomb’s, cockrell, then college of comm.

Restricted Admission: College of Communication
Because admission to the College of Communication is so competitive, automatic admission for eligible Texas applicants is restricted to the most qualified applicants.

just going off that alone, one would assume that geosciences and business are just about the same in terms of competition.

however, mccomb’s is the most competitive college and geosciences is one of the least competitive.

Looking at average scores is misleading. Test scores only matter for a small percentage of students because most are admitted under the auto-admissions rules. Many students who qualify for auto-admissions don’t sweat the tests unless they are also applying for private/oos schools. Class rank is the ONLY consideration for 75% of instate admitted students.

Anyone who said Communications may have easier material is completely wrong or shouldn’t assume. I know first hand that becoming and advertising/pr major is really difficult and requires a lot of dedication. The weed-out class, 318J is a hell story on its own. Anyone that took it will tell you that. Each semester some crazy amount of people try to get into adv/pr and only half make it through the first part. You’re not even safe yet. You still have to take these research intensive courses and media planning courses…etc. The point is the Comm. school is one of the best in the nation (and top 3 for advertising). UT didn’t get that recognition without any effort. The Comm. school is constantly turning out talented graduates giving UT a great name and impressing employees with their level of skills straight out of college. Why? Because the students were forced to work their ass off and earn their grade.
