I've seen posts stating it was "quick and easy" to get from Vassar or SLC to NYC - - but the two trips are entirely diff in terms of time/distance, cost and overall ease (the trip from SLC is WAY easier). Can anyone shed light on the time/ease/cost of traveling from Lasell into Boston? Is there easy T access? Does the school run free shuttles (the way Brandeis runs shuttles from Waltham into Cambridge)? Is public transp quick/easy/inexpensive enough for a couple trips per week for work/internships? Or should one count on public transit for only the occasional trip into town?

And what about the trip from Univ Hartford (in West Hartford) into Hartford proper?

It’s about a one mile walk to the Woodlands MBTA station and access is easy into Boston.

I do not know if the school runs shuttles to the T station.

Google Earth shows that the Riverside Station is a similar distance away but the roads to the Woodlands Station are easier to walk on (Commonwealth Ave and Washington St).

You mentioned time and cost - the trip to Boston from Newton is probably 40 minutes but can be as long as an hour depending on the number of people getting on and off at each stop. That green line (D-Riverside) doesn’t run on streets so automobile traffic isn’t a factor. I did the equivalent version of that walk to get to middle-school and back on Washington St. I think that it would be quite inefficient for work/internships though. Sunset gets as early as 4:15 in the winter so it would be walking in the dark and possible rain or snow for a mile after a 40 minute train ride.

I haven’t been on the train on that line for a long time. I think that it was $2 in and free out but my guess is that prices are more like $2 in and $2 out now.

Lasell is very close to the commuter rail line into Boston, and the express bus into Boston runs down Comm Ave, right by the edge of campus. Its a great location for public transportation.

The Commuter Rail station is in Auburndale which is a much shorter walk than to Woodlands or Riverside. I had a look at the Commuter Rail schedule and it runs far less frequently than the MBTA and I believe that fares are higher (hard to figure out from the website but CR usually costs more than the subway).
