I have read many threads where people say don't do certain activity just for the sake of padding your resume and that it does not make any difference if you don't do anything in that club.
But, where and how do you show what you have done in the club??
I just see one space with only 150 words where you can explain anything about your extra curricular activities.
I have been part of many activities because I love doing them, and I don't want to be seen as a person who does stuff just to pad resumes. It is a little frustrating to see people say that it's worthless if you don't show what you have done there where you can't really do much to show it.

In response to the NHS thread, in our school the NHS is really an honor. They accept only 3 or 4 students a year and it is a close community where we go vonlunteer and fund raise. But if I use the space for EC provided for another acitivity, how could I show what we do to the admissions people??

Unless you can magically fit everything in 150 words, how do you expose what you have accomplished in the clubs??

There are many ways to show that an activity is important to you and that you’ve been heavily involved in it.

You could talk about it with your EC at your interview. You could make the activity the subject of an essay (either one of the required ones or a supplemental essay). You could get a recommendation from a teacher who supervises you in the activity. You could ask your guidance counselor to include information on it in your GC recommendation. You could send in a brief explanation of your activities as supplemental material.

I thought you could only send one supplement. Can you send multiple?
And how do you send stuff to MIT if you are applying online?
By mail?

and regarding the list of awards and activities, do you just make a list and explain each?

You can send as much supplemental information to MIT as you think will help effectively tell your story in the application. You can send it to the address at the bottom of the admissions website.
