I know you don't need to pad your EC list, but is there a danger to being in many clubs/activities? Even if I didn't list any of them on my apps, I'd probably still stay in all these clubs. I'm considering joining some new clubs and want to make sure these won't hurt me.

Here are my current ECs:
1) Debate Captain, awards
2) Web Design Business (which I own)
3) Computer Science Club President, founder
4) Scholar's Bowl
5) Technology Committee - Student Representative

I am considering adding some more ECs for next year (I'm a sophomore):
1) Class Council
2) FBLA
3) Math League

Would adding these help or hurt my chances?

There is a whole EC thread where you can get as much info as you like. All things being equal most top schools care about significant activities and activities carried through over multiple years.

What will matter will be whether you do anything significant with those organizations, not whether you join them. Doing something significant means more than having a title: It means winning some championships, getting awards, raising funds or doing something else with the clubs that make a difference.

Well, I think I could easily win some major awards at the state FBLA.

Our math league is very strong and I could probably pick up some good awards.

I’m not as sure about class council, but I’m really interested in government & politics so it concerns me that I’m not actually in any student government.
