For any ECE James Scholars, what was a good or popular, or perhaps somewhat less strenuous course to take for Honors credit in your freshman year? Who took this credit 1st semester freshman year, and if so, what class? If a student has taken Calc in high school, would Math 221 be a good class to seek Honors credit? Thanks.

Freshman year you have to complete one honors unit, such as one honors class and often no one does it until second semester. For a course it has to be a session designated as an honors class (typically a number of normal courses will have one designated honors session that JS students can sign up for). I don’t believe Math 221 has any honors level session. Math 221’s difference from math 220 is simply that 220 is designed for those who never had calculus in high school and 221 for those that did. The courses essentially cover the same thing but those in 221 are expected to know something before they begin. In and of itself 221 is not considered an honors course To become one they would have to take one of the sessions that students can sign up for and designate it as the honors sessions by adding something to the course like writing some paper.

Cannot really tell you what to take but it could be something to meet part of your general ed requirement.

Gen-ed physics courses(211, 212,213, and 214) have James scholar options. Check the course websites for more information on the assignments.
For example, here are the James Scholar assignments for Physics 211 last term.

Gulugawa,

Did you take Physics 211 Honors? Did you find the extra work to be reasonable to accomplish with everything else? Thanks for your reply.
