i'm thinking about taking this next term, as my phil class is already full...and the other 3 classes i'm taking are fairly difficult...so i'm wondering, what is the curve like for econ 101? I heard top 25% get A's? What about amount of hw/time committment, etc?

Almost no time commitment needed other than for exams. Homework is assigned but optional. You'll have quizzes from time to time that are just like the homework. Those are easy. The exams are pretty challenging, mostly because they are tricky. You can do well in the class if you go to lecture and take good notes and study them for your exams. There really is no busywork in that class. I looked over my coursepack every other weekend to make sure I was keeping up, but that's about it.

I agree with redhare. Econ has almost no time commitment but you still will need to work to get the concepts down. To do well, you pretty much just need to attend lecture and take the practice tests before the exams. There is no required homework, and the few quizzes are really easy.

Regarding the curve, the mean on the first exam was 92/130 and the grades were distributed as A=110+, B=90-109, C=68-89. There are a lot of people in the class who don't care about it, so if you're not one of them then you should be fine.

Read the book, pay attention in lectures, go over the homeworks before discussion and pay attention in discussion. Do any one of those three and study off of the old exams before big tests, and you'll be fine. Personally, I found it best to just look over the homeworks and learn stuff in discussion section. The book seemed way too long and filled with examples to make it easy to find what you needed to know. The lectures were boring and filled with too much theory. In discussion section, the GSI made the concepts very clear and told you what you needed to know to pass the quizzes/exams.

Definitely do the practice exams, but overall, the class is easier winter term. I found this class fairly difficult for the most part...

its the easiest class ever.

just do practice exams over and over. OVER AND OVEr over and over over and over

and read the book.

Justin ^^ that guy. ^^ doesn't agree with reading the book.

but do it.

The Book is pointless to read, but I agree, just do the exams over and over

the book is not pointless.

the thing about econ 101 is that u only need to study like 10 minutes each day (reading the book)

don't even do the homework until b4 the exams.

The quizes are easy as hell--not tricky at all.

the onlyl studying is b4 exams (doing a practice test each day, reading coursepack each day)
