Econ major acceptance rate

If a 3.0 in the five prerequisite courses is all that you need to be admitted to the Economics major, and no other criteria are taken into consideration (no essay requirement, thank goodness), then how effective is this standard in "capping" the number of students who enter the major? Doesn't this mean that everyone who meets the requirement gets in (thereby defeating the purpose of the cap)?

I'm thinking about attending Berkeley to study Economics, and as someone who lacks a natural aptitude for math, I've been trying to gauge the actual difficulty of the major (you may have seen a few of my previous posts in other threads about this).

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for the major this past semester at Berkeley or last semester? And if you do, could you please include the source where you're getting the information? Thank you!

In practice, using a GPA minimum to limit the number of students declaring a major can be effective, since lower division prerequisite courses are typically “graded on a curve”.
