they call it 'capped major', meaning it has its own admission process
and that not all students who like to major in economics can do it.
(GPA cut-off etc or sth like that)

Will it be more difficult to an asian international?

oh. for 2010 Fall freshmen applicants :)

it’s not going to affect you, you declare econ major during your sophomore year… so pick some major from L&S or something, i think there might be a pre econ or something like that.

Everyone applying to a major within the College of Letters and Science (economics included) will be officially undeclared when they arrive at Berkeley. What you put down as your major will not affect your admission decision in any way.

Economics is a capped major, however you apply for it once you are already at Berkeley. There is a chance that you will not get it, but in practice if you have above a 3.0, you are fine.

I’m afraid because econ major is the only major I want in College of Letters and Science.
If by any chance I fail to get in…then…T.T WHoh…

All you need is a 3.0. Don’t psyche yourself out before even getting on campus. Once you get settled in your class and you start to understand how you work in college, you’ll have no problem getting a 3.0. Just stay on top of it.

it’s not hard at all, nothing to freak out about

You need at least a 3.0 overall in your prerequisites and nothing less than a C grade in those classes, as well.

nah, everyone gets in. even if your gpa falls below 3.0 (although you shouldn’t be letting this happen) you can petition to get in the major and they will usually just let you in.

How does that petition process work demoz?

I’m wondering how hard is the economics major at Berkeley?

yeah i am wondering about that too. I first put pre business but I feel like its too hard for me, especially because that and economics require calc and I suck at calc like no other.
