Im going to be a sophomore next year and have only taken econ 101

I noticed that econ 102 is a prerequisite course to the major, but I heard you can take 401/402 without taking 102. Is 102 really necessary to major in econ.
Im doing pre-med also, so I want to take as few econ classes as possible. I would prefer not to take 102, but if I have to,then..

Has anyone majored in econ without taking 102?

So why do you want to major econ, if your goal is to take as few econ classes as possible?

another question

can you get a minor with 101X and 102X departmental credit instead of taking 101 and 102

I want to take as few econ classes as possible because I have to take the orgo series, 2 bio classes, 2 gen chem classes, 2 physics, sociology, psych, microbiology, and biochem…So I want to be able to take a few elective classes

Im interested in the subject but I don’t want to take a class I don’t have to

I would see a concentration advisor if you seeking either to skip 102 or use 101X and 102X departmental credit. I have read on cc that it can be done but I think it requires permission.

Someone told me they personally did it, but they had already taken 401 and 402 by the time they declared. They also told me they knew others who had, and it’s typically not a problem if you did well in 401 and 402.

It is true that you do not need to take 101/102 to take 401/402.
