@Shibykin, I think you would be the one with the “idiotic” view here. People don’t just think about rankings and even rankings can be debatable (more so in the case of UCD vs UCSD). There’s a girl in my physics course who transferred from Scripps to UCSC. I also met a guy at UC Davis’s transfer admit day who is transferring out of UCLA.

Of course some people might be curious about why you transferred, but there’s always legitimate reasons. Availability of your preferred major is a huge thing I see for UC-UC transfers. Also some people don’t really enjoy their UC after going there for 2 years and realize they might be happier elsewhere (guessing that’s OP’s reason). If I didn’t like it at UCI and wanted to move back to norcal, I wouldn’t see any issue of going to UCD over UCSD.

I’ve never been to Davis but just recently had to make the decision between econ at Cal and UCSD, so I consider myself knowledgeable at least about UCSD’s program. The program there is considered better than the one at Davis and I know they are particularly good at Econometrics.

I’ve lived in SD for a long time so maybe I’m biased, but I say UCSD all the way. Great weather, great women, great education, great city. Don’t listen to what they say about the whole “Triton Eye” thing too. The girls look fine there. Anyway, you can probably just get a girl from SDSU.

The 7 ranks don’t mean much but to most people you get a completely different perceptio n to others. Both schools are excellent schools so don’t think I have something for ranking but to many people UCD is just an average school. UCSD however is perceived to be more prestigious and is a top tier school. Although UCD and UCSD prob don’t differ by much, it’s a fact that job employees would probably think you’re a much smarter person if u went to ucsd than ucd.

"it’s a fact that job employees would probably think you’re a much smarter person if u went to ucsd than ucd. "

I just laughed out loud…

^Lol. Why would someone care if their job EMPLOYEES thought you were a smarter person? Sure you don’t mean EMPLOYERS? Even that logic is flawed. This isn’t comparing UCD and an Ivy league, this is UCD vs UCSD. Although UCSD might be ranked higher overall and also in econ, this really doesn’t mean much to your future employers if you don’t have any work experience.

I’ve had actual experience in hiring undergrad students and prestige means nothing when work experience is involved. Just putting a top university isn’t enough to impress employers, you need to show them that you have a track record of success for their listed qualifications. Last summer I was offered several internships even though I was from UCSC. I have friends majoring in econ at UCD and UCSD who weren’t even offered interviews for the same internships I applied for. I highly doubt this is due to some apparent love that those companies had for UCSC. Two people who work on my team thought this whole time that UCSC stood for UC Santa Clara.

Bottom line: This isn’t comparing UCD and Princeton, so it really doesn’t matter. Go where you will be happy and know you will succeed/grow.

o.o. whoa this thread turned to attacking Shiby O.O. I think we contributed enough for the OP to decide where to go :P

Edit: Although isn’t Shiby’s point saying that employees would think that a UCSD student is probably smarter than a UCD student which isn’t exactly really correlating to how sucessful the OP would be from either school. Therefore iono y u guys are pinpointing that certain part -.-. I would love to have the option to go to either school but I didn’t and I’ll admit I think UCD is just an average school.

I would go to the school where I would feel comfortable, could do well, and get a job in the future :).

I kinda just skipped over Shibykin’s and OMGitsME’s posts because they just look like nonsense, LOL.

Thanks everyone! A few days ago I SIRd to Davis after I had a long talk with one of my Dad’s coworkers at Merrill Lynch. He heads a global wealth team and says they usually hire a student fresh out of college every year and let them grow in their company. He wholeheartedly agreed that work experience is their #1 factor in resumes and then the type of major. He said they actually hired several people from UC Davis because their managerial econ program is structured really well for the private industry and most of them got internships from Sacramento. Although he agreed UCSD is a fine university, he hasn’t seen many (or any) that were recruited for financial positions. Maybe they are better for academia? I don’t know and I don’t care. UC Socially Dead and triton eye won’t harm me because I AM NOW AN AGGIE…

…I’m bracing myself for the cow manure smell near the farm O_O

Wow I give u my opinion and u say it looks like nonsense. Just because I dont favor UCD over SD, doesnt make it nonsense <.<. W.e it’s ur life and u better not regret choosing UCD.

Notice how they’re both incoming freshmen.

@ LebronFever- good to hear. I’ll be majoring in Managerial Econ this coming Fall, and I picked this over UCSD’s Management Science program too.

See you there!! Congrats! Aggies :)

@OMGitsMe: Nonsense as in your posts do not seem like they are written in English. I don’t care if you favor UCSD over UCD, I actually want to see people post they like SD because then they can help persuade me.

@makin it rain: Nice man, looks like a lot of people made this choice as well. What orientation day did you sign up for?

I’ll be attending the first orientation, which I believe is the 21st.
Excited!!!

If your major is economics, I recommend you go to UCD. I am studying structuring engineering at UCSD. The social life here is boring than I expected. However, I am happy with my major. My friend at UCD told me there are a lot of good programs and internships for economic major there.
