Econ Transfer Students

Hey guys/gals,

Econ transfer student, here. During the orientation, the Econ department said that we should take 10A during the first quarter so that we can declare Econ as our major, but looking at the GOLD website, it seems as if 10A isn't going to be available during the first quarter. It'll be ok to take it at a later time and declare the major at that point?

I'll give the department a call in the morning to make sure, but I'd like to get some feedback from you guys/gals.

Thanks

Fellow Econ transfer here. 10A should certainly be available to you this Fall quarter, as long as you’ve completed the pre-req classes. Every transfer student in an Econ major needs to take 10A in order to advance to the full major, and so UCSB holds spots for transfer students specifically. On GOLD it does indeed list 10A as ‘closed’, but no transfer student can enroll before 8/16 (which is tomorrow), and there are spots open in many of the recitations. When your pass time comes around tomorrow, it should be open for you to enroll in (though you might want to email a counselor now to be safe).

If don’t end up getting into a 10A course this quarter, don’t worry too much. Many transfer students don’t take 10A until winter, but any later than that and you risk delaying your completion of upper-division major coursework.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I think you’re right. The class will probably be open for registration tomorrow.

Should be okay…holding class for transfer. You should join the 2011 ucsb transfer econ group on Facebook
