i got accepted as a pre-admit at michigan's ross school of business, which would cost me about $30k less over 4 years. i also got into uchicago as an econ major. would i be making a big mistake to choose ross over uchicago?

if cost is the issue, save the money an go to Ross, but both schools are good, but try to save money you want little to no debt at all

Ross hands down. IMO, its undergrad is comparable to UChicago, although UChicago has a slight advantage in Chicago (for obvious reasons). UMich has a huge network which should help you out.

Save your money and go to Ross. You’ll also enjoy a wonderful and well-rounded collegiate experience.

I also vote for Ross. As far as undergrad business programs go, Ross is definitely one of the elite and going there will definitely provide you with amazing opportunities. Saving money is a huge factor, too. A lot of people don’t realize how much of a burden another 30k in debt can be and having a degree from Chicago over Ross definitely won’t make up for that gap.

Chicago obvously. It is like driving a BMW vs a Toyota. Which one will go faster, farther and safer.

lol. it’s hard to go “fast and far” with all the debt. btw, it’s michigan for crying out loud. don’t use toyota in a michigan analogy. i’d say it’s more like driving a bmw vs a mercedes. both are well-known brands and pretty comparable. GO BLUE!

Well with the 30k you could save going to Ross, you could upgrade your next car purchase to a BMW. I think ‘making’ must be confused because Ross is definitely one of the best business programs in the US and that analogy is certainly not an accurate or fair representation of your choices.

Ross is shadowed by all the ivies, duke, uchicago, mit, and rivaled by stern.

I have contemplated this many times for months. Chicago’s common core is 2 friggin years. In Mich you can double major in Econs and Business too. Chicago’s econs is renowned but moreso as a graduate program. Ross!

In terms of prestige and recruitment it doesn’t fall short at all. Companies that recruit at ivies come to Ross-it’s in their list. If you still have any doubts, wiki Ross ugrad alumni to see how well they’ve fared. Also, I don’t think you’d like to be an academic right? U of Chi is great but not all rounded at all and it’s best to visit/see for yourself what the environment is like there.
