Is it easier to get into Duke as an intended economics major, public policy major, or English major? Since this answer might change depending on the applicant I will tell you a little about my application.
1470 SAT (710 reading, 760 math)
AP English senior year, honors English junior year, accelerated English sophomore year (this is the most advanced English track in my school)
AP Gov/Econ senior year
Never took an AP history course in high school
Because Duke is so highly ranked in economics and public policy, I figured it would be easier to get in as an intended English major. Is this correct?
Since you apply to either Trinity or Pratt, and I’m guessing you’re applying to Trinity, I don’t think your intended major on your application will make much of a difference tbh. Your overall application (awards, extracurriculars, etc.) will reveal more of your academic interests and your potential major than what you write down as your intended major on the common application. Also don’t lie to the admissions office or to yourself just because you’ll think it’ll help you get into Duke. Just be honest and hopefully things will work out.
Your intended major plays very little importance when admissions decides who to admit. I doubt it will matter much at all. In fact I think based upon your reading score you might be better off applying as an Econ major, as they are more quant focused anyway.
