How hard is it?? Is it a weeder class?

It is a pretty easy class. When I took it our avereages were in the 80s or higher. The tests are just like the practice tests. If you keep up and do the necessary work you should get an A.

ok sounds good. how about BIOL101… can you tell me anything about that class? Is it true that it’s full of pre-meds?

Bio 101 is full of premeds. If you have no interest in premed or a bio major there are much easier classes you can take to fulfill the requirement. I took psyc 1 and it was a really easy A. Personally, I would never take a lab science (hate labs) unless I was serious about the material or it was necessary for my goals.

However, if you have an interest in bio it’s a necessary class to take. It’s not too difficult and if you keep up you should be fine.

xxmichellexx, i’ve noticed you have a few posts about your schedule. i too have worried about mine a lot, but honestly, you need to relax. It’s biology 101 (Intro!!). The harder intro biol course is biol121 for students who had AP Bio, so most kids in your class will not have had more experience in biology than you. If you work hard and give your best effort, you’re going to do fine in Penn, especially in the classes you have signed up for freshman year! (If you were starting off w/ orgo, then that would be a class to worry about, but definitely not these!). To compare, I’m taking chem15, phys170, chem22, math114, writ013, and span115, with those first two classes being honors. I’ll probably end up dropping one of the courses, but really, your schedule is going to be perfectly fine! You’ll do great :)

…penn_13, BIOL101, CHEM015 and PHYS170 are all weeder courses… if you’re truly interested in the subject, you’ll be fine, but if you have doubts, drop to regular CHEM and PHYS150. BIOL101 is a big class and they don’t really hide the fact that they’re trying to get rid of the ones who aren’t interested in premed or being a BIOL/CHEM/PHYS major

penn_13, how the heck did you get permission to take 6 classes??

chrisw, you are right about biol101. i shouldn’t have made it sound so easy because it’s intro… my apologies  But, do you really think chem015 and phys170 are weeders? I would think that since they are the small, honors versions, most kids are either really good at the subject or really interested in it, so there would not be much need to ‘weed’ anyone out. And I am truly interested (I also took AP Chem and AP Physics, so I felt like I would rather challenge myself a bit and have less repetition).

scribbler91, im in vagelos mls, so i guess i get permission to take more because we have to take more courses throughout the 4 years at Penn. (i think if anyone made a strong enough case they might be able to take more than what is traditionally allowed for freshman… but i’m not totally sure).

chem 015 and 022 are vagelos mls weeders

i don’t think phys 170 is particularly a weeder

^ hmm yea that makes sense. thanks! i have no idea what i’m getting myself into lol
