I just got accepted to Case Western today for economics! I'm so excited and blessed since Case is my 2nd choice school (after my super-reach University of Rochester). I was wondering what the caliber of Case's economics program is? Do a lot of people come to Case to recruit?

Thanks in advanced! Excited to potentially be a class of 2019 Spartan!

My son is also looking at Case and Rochester. Rochester is ranked higher for economics. During our CWRU tour we did talk with the assistant dean at Weatherhead which is the business school and economics is under business at CWRU. I did get the sense it was a solid program and CWRU is closer and easier to fly in and out of for us so we would lean towards CWRU. Also, I’m not sure what type of scholarships Rocherster gives - if they don’t give the same amount as CWRU they won’t be considered.

Thank you for your response @singermom4! Rochester’s economics program is much more notable than Case’s, so if I get accepted my decision will be an easy one. Weatherhead grad school doesn’t seem very selective (I think it was somewhere from 58-64%), and I was wondering if undergrad is the same? I guess I technically wasn’t admitted to Weatherhead but to Case in general, but I’m interested in knowing how difficult it is for economics majors to get accepted.

I got no merit aid from Case, just a nice grant from the CSS Profile. I don’t expect any merit from Rochester either. Hopefully we’ll get a similar amount of money from Rochester in the form of a grant because if not it’ll be unaffordable.

Case’s economics are ridiculous. I think we are like 7th for ugrad econ, and 4th for ugrad micro econ. Also you are the second person Ive heard of not getting any merit. the other guy carried a solid 2.5 on 9 credit hours his first semester, just a heads up
There were a lot of people I know who were accepted to Case who didn’t get any merit. I’m not worried about it, though, because with the grants and the small amount of loans I’ll probably take out it’ll be affordable. I have a 3.4 UW, so that’s substantially higher than a 2.5.
Why is Rochester a super reach compared to Case? I think Case is better. It’s economics program is pretty good, and the faculty are very accessible. It isn’t difficult to excel in the program, and you can position yourself well for employment post-graduation.
