Economics at Grinnell?

Hello everyone, I'm relatively new as a poster, but I've been reading CC posts for a while now.

I'm an international student from Serbia, and I applied to Grinnell RD
(currently waiting for the 26th of March) because I fell in love with the school but due to certain difficulties with paperwork I wasn't able to apply EDI or II.

My career interests usually reside somewhere in the sphere of business -

I'd like to become a stock broker (my dream),
or anything connected to business and people, as I'm good with numbers and am quite a social person.
It would be terrific if the job would be fast-paced, would involve taking risks and wearing suits (I'm addicted to suits).

What would you suggest majoring in at Grinnell (if I happen to get in)?
I intend to get an MBA at one point in my life.

I was thinking along the lines of 3+2 - economics (with a math focus) and engineering (at Columbia maybe?)
But I'm asking you guys seeing as you probably know a lot more than I do.

I intend to have a high GPA, I'm extremely motivated,
and will do anything (legal) to achieve my dream.

I believe college is a place where you define who you are, what you want to do, and try to become the best version of yourself, not only for your own sake, but for the sake of others as well.

That said, I thank you in advance for answering my questions,
All the best,
D.

I wouldn’t even worry about it at this point! Just explore different course offerings. Your tutorial professor will also be your academic advisor your first two years, and will help you figure out the best courses for you to get started, and then your advisor will be a professor in your major. Any major at Grinnell will prepare you for a career in business, because it will teach you to think critically and adapt to new ideas. In its curriculum, Grinnell does not have a preprofessional focus, but through internships and other things, it helps students prepare for the “real world.”

also, there is a Career Office which will help guide you in marrying your academic pursuits with job information.

Best of luck to you on the 26th!

What you’ll see is that some professors are good, but many are not. It’s very very hard to get into the good professors sections.

Well I personally think we have a strong Econ major here,

and don’t listen to RMP. If someone’s going to post on that its either that they loved or hated it.

I say go for what you love ^^. Things also change. I didn’t think I was going to be what I am now until last semester, so who knows?

Just try different things and if Econ is your thing, I would go for it. Or if anything, another humanities major and mix and match. =)
