Economics for Leaders 2012

Did anyone get rejected?

got in at UC Berkeley! yay, top choice(= i wish it wasn’t so expensive though =/
and @dfree124, since this program isn’t crazy selective, i don’t think many rejectees are going to post their application status

One of my friends got into University of Illinois @Chicago… my other friend who applied to babson, cornell, and wooster hasn’t gotten an email yet which is odd, because i thought they were notifying all people who applied, today. BUT CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO GOT ACCEPTED! And i look forward to meeting you this summer @Dfree124!

Applied to Cornell, UC Berkeley, and Vanderbilt.

Got into UC Berkeley today; was intent on the convenience of Cornell (also my first choice school), but UC Berkeley is also really nice.

The airfare cost, however, isn’t so nice.

Congrats to those that got in! I’m currently in between hearing back from other programs… we’ll see where life takes me!

@coco - Congrats! I heard the acceptance rate was ~40% (might only be for one campus, not the program as a whole). So yea, people probably wouldn’t come on here saying they got rejected.

@Ahollister - Look forward to meeting you too!

I bet a lot of people applied to Cornell… Speaking of which, I visited Cornell today

@Cheeseandbacon - The program at Utexas is only $500, and you get college credit. I would recommend this program as it is 1/4 the cost and you still get the credit (although I believe the credit itself is an extra ~$200).

I would recommend EFL for the same reason, but the Boston College one also sounds like it would be fun. Do you guys know if economics for leaders is good for college applications?

It certainly isn’t bad… I would hope you’re not doing this program just for your application. Colleges like to see students spending their time productively, and this is certainly a productive use of time. If you have any interest in studying economics or something related , like business, in college (as I do) then this will show colleges that you are serious about your studies and your potential major. Part of the reason I applied was I won’t be able to take AP econ (macro only, my school’s scheduling sucks) until second semester of my senior year, when I will probably already have picked which college I will go to. I want to get a good idea of what econ is like, cause my school doesn’t give me the opportunity to do so until it will be too late.

Oh I’m absolutely not doing it for my college application. My school only has a regular half year economics class, and I am quite confident I want to major in economics/finance, and I didn’t think a regular half year high school class would fully make me sure if I want to major in economics.

Unless you’re doing something super prestigious, this program is as good as the rest of them. Count me in for finance/econ too, I see a trend forming…

I got into UCLA! However, the program is pretty expensive ($600)… and air-fair would be at least $300 round-trip, if not more. I’m still considering whether the this expense justifies what I would gain from the program. But, there’s a high probably I’ll end up going…

Anyone else get into UCLA?.. Or any UCLA alums want to share whether or not you thought the program was worth it?

I got accepted into University of Washington!
Is anyone else going? Or does anyone know if the other colleges will let you know if you are accepted? I only received one email for UW

Got into UC Berkeley :)

I’m an international(well, American living abroad), so I don’t know how they’re going to get me the materials and stuff on time…

@moltobene - $600 is actually pretty cheap. A bunch of summer programs are like $1000+ per week, this is one of the cheapest I could find.

Yeah it was the cheapest, and most legitimate program i could find for economics. And @david2013, you only get into one college, you chose 3 on the application for back ups if you didn’t get Into your first choice! T

Oh and my one friend has been waitlisted at cornell

I’m from Florida and I got into Vandy - so excited!! I’m applying there so I thought it was a good idea to spend a week there. Any one else going to Vanderbilt for EFL???
congrats hawaiian holiday! Are you going for sure?

I got into the College of Wooster location. Is anyone else going there?
P.S. I feel like your odds of acceptance were higher if you’re a HOBY alumni. In my essay I wrote about how HOBY made me a better leader. Anyone else agree that HOBY connections were helpful?

Totally. I had a whole paragraph about my involvement with HOBY.

Got into Cornell. I read earlier in this thread that we could get college credit from this program. How exactly does that work?
