Economics for Leaders

I have been accepted to attend this program at Brown at the end of July. I was wondering if anyone else is planning on attending there? Also, if anybody has gone to the program, can you give me some general information or tips? Thanks!

@abklam I took this program last year at UChicago. While I found it to be a great experience, especially for getting used to college life (dorms, eating on campus, getting to know the campus) if you have already taken an economics course it might not really add anything. I took AP Macro last year prior to the program so much of the material was review, however, I did get some certificate saying that I was proficient in economics which I’m sure can help during college apps. Everyone was extremely nice and I still talk to a lot of the kids and a few of the PCs (counselors) from the program. I highly recommend, but if you have already taken a rigorous economics course I’d advise you to look into something else so that you’re not paying the $1000 (or whatever the number is) for a one-week review session. Advice: Definitely bring some extra cash. I think everyone from my program left UChicago at one point or another to do all of the touristy stuff in Chicago which costs money, and also if you don’t want to eat the food provided in the dining hall every day (although I’m not sure how touristy RI is).

Are you allowed to leave the campus and do stuff on your own? And thanks for the information about the economics courses. Our high school is tiny so it doesn’t really offer any unique courses. Hopefully I can learn some new stuff!

@abklam I don’t think you are allowed to leave campus HOWEVER during my session basically everyone did at some point or another. They all took Ubers to the Bean (sculpture) and Trump Tower and other things downtown and tried to get back to campus in time for the next session (they give you like an hour or two of free time and don’t check you in for dinner so you get probably 3-4 hours of free). They were all pretty good about planning their timing and were all not getting caught for the first few times but then one day it rained and traffic was really bad and they got in trouble (basically just told them not to do it again). Our leader threatened to withhold any certificate to a student that she knew left campus but I think everyone who earned one received theirs. You get so much free time that you could probably sneak off campus for a while or spend a lot of time doing stuff on campus if there is anything that you find interesting.
