My son has it narrowed Dow to 2 schools. He wants to major in economics and is wondering what/if any companies recruit at UNC with that major? Since the business school accepts only 50%, do many students major in economics as a backup?

Yes, Economics is a very common back-up for aspiring KF applicants and both are actively recruited on campus. It is really important to ensure the school you attend is a target school for the companies you are interested in. UNC is right up there with top privates and Ivys in that respect. I have plenty of HS friends that are not seeing blue chip companies recruiting on their campuses and are finding it difficult to develop those interviewing opportunities on their own. That is a huge benefit that UNC has over many other schools and it is in great part due to the draw that KF has being a top 10 undergrad business school.
