Kinda find it hard to believe that Exeter, TJHSST, and other high schools aren't even listed on the list. But, ok.

Your ECs are quite an interesting mix. Weightlifting and cricket? It's good that you hold a lot of leadership positions, but nothing seems to grab my attention. What is your hook? That is what the admissions office is looking for.

Declining grade trend... not so good. Try to raise your GPA, otherwise, colleges will not have a first good impression (since grades ARE what they see first).

what are your interests?? your EC
s are solid, but nothing stands out...(sorry if this is harsh) are you passinoate about something? can you try to do more with your interests? your EC
s are kind of all over the place..do you think you can do more with in one area or interest?

no not harsh at all...i appreciate the help :)

but umm alot of that stuff involves TONS of community service within it....as far as focusing on something i dont really know what i could do...i really enjoy weightlifting and jeet kune do but i dont see how i could focus that more

lolok1214 I have a feeling that you did alot of these ECs just to look good to colleges.

no not really....2 of them are Muslim youth organizaitons on differnt scales of size...and iv always been really involved in that kinda stuff ever sicne i was little. The jeet kune do and weightlifitng....i dont think i really need to explain that NHS and GHS...admitted so...ill do what i can

in order of importance its probably

MYGD President
Class Secretary
MSA/Soup Kitchen -tie
Weightlifting
NHS
GHS
Cricket Club
Jeet Kune Do(i dont think this one really helps?)

Junior, Competitive public school (top 600)
3.8uw GPA, 4.08 w GPA, 10 total APs (two 5s so far)
Rank: top 16% uw, top 7% weighted
SAT (new) - equivalent of a 1350 - 1400
ACT - 29-33

ECs - I didn't even think of their effects upon admission until this year. I've been dedicated strongly to two of these ECs and I feel that I'm fairly accomplished.
Track (9, 10, 11[L], 12[L])
Piano (10 years) - 4 Theory exams, 4 Technique exams, numerous recitals, competition (went to finals and alternate for all-state performance), ensembles, I was also chosen to play at the "christening" of our studio's new building. helped out in a church program
Traveling basketball (equivalent of a "B" squad) (9)
Referee for children's basketball (10, 11, 12)
Job 3.5 months (11)
Volunteer at hospital (11, 12) 150 or so hours projected total, probably more

A few other minor things. And this isn't fluffed.

well perhaps you could tie in your love for weighlifting w/communitiy service?... sorry, this may be a stupid idea lol. umm could you organize something more with the community service, like organizing charatiy drives and stuff.(or are you doing that already?) it
s good that you have leadership positions, but could you do more with that position? is there something you could write about in your essays?
like i said, your ec
s are solid-and it
s not like your trying to apply to Harvard or Yale, so i think it
ll be okay. just focus on your interests more and use your leaderrshp positions for sthing beneficial.

i can describe those fundraising dinners through our MSA...

Each year through HS iv been heavily involved in these dinners and am secretary of the organization

The first year we did a dinner for the war torn country of Chechneya and raised approx $50,000

the 2nd year, in which i was very heavily involved in, we did it for Children of War around the world in countries with humanitrain crisis and raised approx $75,000

This year we did it for the Crisis in Darfur, Sudan which currently has a civil war going on and is considered the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and raised $50,000

the dinners have an attendence of about 400-500 people and the time and effor that goes into it is tremendous, which can be confirmed by the charity itself that we work through

bring that out!! Don't assume they know all this stuff, and that is great, just be sure to tell the colleges that THAT is what you are involved in... Without that info, the stuff looks plain, but that adds spunk!!

UofM Ann Arbor
University of Chicago
Columbia University
Cornell University
Northwestern University
University of Pennsilvainya
UC Berkly
maybe even Hopkins and id go into med...

a hook is something unusual, something that makes you stand out.
I think it
s rather difficult to acquire a
hook
in your junior year... do you think you are unique in someway? the fundraisers/community service will definately be a big plus if you explain it in essays and such, but i don
t know how much it would qualify as a hook...like i said before, your ec
s are too broad and spread out. it
s difficult to have a hook if you arent focused in some area. i know your interests are weighlifting, but do you do something special in your club you started?????
will you take the SAT
s? your ACT score is fine, maybe you could try for the SAT
s. I think you will have a decent shot a Ann Arbor, Berkley, and possibly Northwestern. Cornell/University of Chicago will be a reach, and so will UPenn....
I don`t see any safeties in the list.. you should definately get some safeties. Your IB diploma will definately be a plus

the thing with ann arbor is that our school has very very good relations with them and i know kids who get liek 3.4's and 27s and get accepted there....so thats my safety school...ill also apply to MSU and Wayne State...and wayne gives u a full ride if u get a 31 on ur ACT-so im safe
and yea im taking my SAT may 7th...aiming for at least 2100, and il be taking SAT IIs after that, math IIC, physics, european history maybe one more?

and iv been sitting here thinking of a way that im unique and im pulling a blank haha...shoot all i can think of is that im a 6 foot 2 brown kid whos probably considered a nerd by most ppl that bench presses and plays basketball while running around and making sure everything im responsible for is going properly....so i guess that dont cut it yet
