I mean, I am in a musical EC, but I know successful pre-meds who don't do anything with music at all. That said, I can't say that all medical schools care about are ECs that are related to medicine. In my interviews, I was definitely asked about the non-medical ECs at least as much as my medicine-related ECs. So I don't think it's necessary that you be musically talented in order to get into medical school, but you do probably need to branch out to things unrelated to medicine.

and about your actual question, im not really sure how much of a difference it will make...i would definitely say it is not neccessary, but the best answer i guess would be "if it is important to you, you should do it and it will show,"
..but if you want to do it just for med school, its prbly not going to make a big enough difference for it to be worth the huge time commitment...since med school admission is very different from college admission...i think..
anyway..my $0.02

Uh, plenty of people get into college without doing band in high school. As it's not a requisite for undergraduate admissions, I think it's safe to assume it's not for medical school admissions either. Or any program that doesn't focus on music.

I heart that med schools want to see leadership. I understand this b/c it is similar to regular undergrad admissions, but how many leadserhip positions do they want to see. I mean they want a high GPA and MCAT score first. I do research and I truly feel that I could pull off a few publications, but since I do research (which I enjoy btw), I really don't have time to be in too many clubs. How do you classify a leadership position- president only or can you be be in a lower position like secretary? I also hjear med schools prefer unique activites as opposed to a student being involved in like 10 clubs, but if they do say 2 clubs but have other ECs like volunteering to help underpriveledged kids learns and stuff, it is better? What's your take on it?
