Medicine, Music, and Med School Worries

Hey! I’m fairly set on going into medicine (I really want to do it) and I really want to pursue music as well. I was wondering which major would be good for pre med along with music (maybe a double major or minor in music). I know that you can technically just major in music and complete the requirements. However, I wanted to know if something in Biology or Biomedical Science would be good with music for Med School?

Check out “BS/MD or Pre-Med with Music thread” in premed forum

Back in December you were really interested in aviation according to your thread at

New year, new focus I guess.

Look, its great that you’re considering lots of possibilities for your future. It isn’t so great that you flit from area to area and each time you alight you are “fairly set” or “really interested.”

IMHO you should admit to yourself that you are in the exploration phase. And rather than jumping to quick decisions every month why not take the time to explore careers? Nobody gets into med school without having exposure to the field thru volunteer or paid work; it is an unwritten requirement. And for many health-care fields like PA or nursing many programs either explicitly require experience or favor those having it. For that matter, what health careers have you seriously considered other than doctor like every other aspiring HS junior?

So spend some time looking into medicine; I assume you won’t be applying until next fall. Go out now and line up a volunteer position for this summer or even sooner and find out if medicine is really something you want to do. Wait until you’ve done this before you start picking majors or colleges based on your latest goal(s).
