Okay- I have a few questions. I’m a junior in high school right now.
First of all: extracurriculars.
Up until high school I was involved in a lot of activities. I played several sports in elementary, but I played soccer and did ballet the longest. In eighth grade, I was also in NJHS, student council, and winterguard. When I got to high school, however, things changed a little bit. Basically the only extracurricular activities I’ve been involved in are Latin Club for 3 semesters (9, 10), Key Club for 1 year (9), Thespian Club for 3 semesters (9,10), and ballet for 1 year (9). I left public school at the beginning of the second semester of 10th grade to do homeschool because of health issues. In March of that year I was hospitalized for two weeks, but I didn’t really get 100% back to normal until around the end of July (if that wouldn’t have happened I might have tried to join something) Anyway, I was originally considering going back, possibly, but homeschool ended up being perfect for me (I actually had already been homeschooled up until 3rd grade) and so I kept doing it for 11th grade, and I’m planning on continuing with it. Which brings me to my next question–
If things keep going like they are now, I will finish all of my core high school classes (calc, physics, language arts) sometime this fall. I’m planning on doing some electives (languages, social sciences, probably some APs, music, etc.) the following spring, so I have enough to amount to 4 total years’ worth. I didn’t do any real electives the second sem. of 10th grade either, besides Latin II. I guess I just am wondering how important electives are?
The ECs are the main thing I’m worried about. Outside of school now, I really just read, watch movies, listen to music, occasionally hang out with friends, and spend a ton of time with my family. There are many things I’m passionate about and extremely interested in, but it’s not like there’s any psychology camps or whatever out there…
My family does own a business, but there’s not really much I’m able to help with there. Also, even if I found some activities, I would only be part of them for ~1 more year.
I’m taking the (new) SAT this spring, but I usually test well, and I’ve taken some practice tests and gotten 700-800 for reading and writing/language arts (I don’t remember my Math scores but they were lower, probably around 450-600. I’ve forgotten a lot of things I learned in Algebra 1 & Geometry but I’m studying and reviewing for like 4+ hours a day).
I don’t know my GPA right now, but I typically make As & Bs. Straight As 9th grade, but 2 or 3 Cs in 10th.
I live in OK, and I’d be fine going to OU or something, but my dream school is NYU. I’d probably major in journalism, marine biology, genetics, design, psych/anthro/sociology, art history, or English.
Thank you so much & sorry for the overload of background information!
