Does it look like I'm doing an EC For College if I start it in Eleventh grade? I already have strong EC's in general but I want to study engineering and all I have as a science club is math league because that was the only one of the type offered at my school. I'm thinking of starting a JETS at my school, but if i do it as a junior will it look like im just doing it for college?

founding a club junior year is at the very least more impressive than not doing anythign at all. joining is one thing, but founding displays passion and follow-through and all that ****.

well since you ARE just doing it for college then yes.

Well I like Engineering just being in a suburban high school ppl just hate extracurricular activities....our school has about 10 clubs at most lol

I guess my question is would it "seem" like that, cause otherwise I dont want to seem to colleges that Im just randomly applying to the Engineering department at places like Cornell

my advice would be to not worry about what anything would seem like to colleges. if you wanna do it, then do it

I'm in the same boat. I'm considering forming a philosophy club and asking professors from a local university to give lectures, but I'm afraid it will look like I'm doing it to impress colleges. I'll be a junior.

I think I'm going to do it whether I put it on my application or not, I just don't know if it's something I should put on there.

I never got the "my school doesn't offer any ECs". It's not supposed to.

Do it, Philosophy is AWESOME!

Like others said, it's better than nothing.

Next year I'm already starting a chapter of the high school young democrats (im only starting it finally next year because I didnt found out high school students were allowed to participate in politics yet until just a few months ago =) which is prob. the EC ill write about on my app because thats the one i care about most compared to my other ones. I guess ill start it next year, just its hard then my EC's go 1 over teh limit for the 7 spots on the common app but i guess ill deal with that later on

Philosophy? Amazing. Very very few high school students now even know what philosophy is, which i find dissapointing. I'm actually working on a Davidson's Fellow project in philosophy as I've been reading some philosophy in my free time over the past 3 years lol.

Philosophy Club will stand out; not many people do that, you know! Go for it. It will definitely bolster your app.

I Frikkin love Philosophy, one of the coolest subjects I took and I highly encourage you to go for it.
