I just have a question about two of my EC’s. (This post is completely capricious in regards to my last thread, so if you realize that then please… I get it.)

I was a new 11th grader at my school this year, but was nonetheless elected the school vice-president (the first time in the school’s history a new 11th grader has gotten elected to that position or higher). 24 kids ran. It’s also a feeder school, one of the “top 5” boarding schools in the United States/Internationally. Which one I won’t really say. Does that fact make my position more important?

I’m a private-pilot. That’s not too common is it? I haven’t seen anyone say that on the CC board.

I have other EC’s, but are these impressive?

i dont know anyone who's a private pilot... sounds like an essay topic to me haha...

The private pilot would help out a bunch if you planned to go for an aeronautical engineering degree or into the US Air Force or Naval Academy fighter pilot programs (or to Embry-Riddle or similar). Also, if you started using your pilot's license to ferry supplies to poor countries during the summer it would help. Otherwise, it is more of a hobby--although it does show initiative on your part, obviously.

As far as the VP thing--if you got this at a well-known feeder school, then yes, the colleges they normally "feed" into will take that into account.

I'm planning on giving a speech this fall about environmental protection including pictures from flights I've done around the Northeast. It's a powerpoint presentation and will be given to 1200+ people. It'll be filmed too and if I can I'll send the DVD to colleges, the essay will be about aviation's impact on my outlook on the environment and how I translated the view of a pilots perspective in an attempt to raise environmental awareness/appreciation. Sort of corny, I know...but it's what I'm passionate about. Sound good?
