how important are extracurric. activities in transfer admissions to a school like brown university?

Not as important as GPA and SAT scores, however as with any school EC's are always helpful when deciding between otherwise identical applicants.

oh ok. and if i am a sophomore transfer applicant, will my high school transcript be looked at in addition to my college gpa? are high school ec's looked at too?

Yeah .

My guess is that highschool ecs can only help you. If you were an intel finalist or you won some international violin award while you were in highschool, they are obviously going to consider that. But if you just sat on your ass and posted on cc for 4 years straight, I doubt that will hurt you a whole lot.

I don't think there is a standard formula at a school as selective as Brown for admission. In general though, college ecs don't matter as much for admissions, unless you have some outstanding accomplishment. I'm sure if you had some extremely influential paper you wrote or you were an outstanding athelete, they would take you even if your stats were like 5th percentile for Brown admits. However, especially if you are transfering from a good school (eg UC Berkeley), you could get in on GPA, essay and recs alone.

cool. thanks so much for responding!
