Does anyone know WHEN the MHC ED1 admissions decisions were initially communicated to applicants last year? And how? By post mail, by e-mail, or by website?

At my D's interview, she was told within one month. However, I see that Smith's ED1 decisions last year were posted on line on Dec. 11 (Smith had the same Nov. 15 filing deadline as MHC), which would be this week.

My D’s high school guidance counselor was told by MHC that as of this morning, ED1 decisions have not yet been mailed out by MHC, and that they “might” be mailed out later this week.

However, MHC is open through and including Tuesday, December 22.

MHC says that they will notify applicants their admission status on or before 1 January, so I expect I will know of it around 27th Dec. But later this week? That will be a relief, I have been on pins and needles for over a month now.

nene_al: do not hold your breath for “this week”. My daughter is now resigned to the fact that she will likely not hear until after Christmas (ug). Assume that and be surprised if we hear sooner. As I mentioned, MHC is open next week, as I assume the admissions office is. However, I assume their incentive is that as soon as the letters go out into the mail, the entire admissions staff can go off on vacation, since apparently that office is closed between Christmas and New Year’s. My D is on pins and needles too, and does not want to have to prepare other applications. My D’s high school guidance counselor says that MHC will likely be one of the last schools to send their letters out.

oh really? I really got my hopes up that at least the wait is over and I can move on to prepare my ED2 application (in case they throw me a rejection letter). But after Christmas? The pain will go on for much longer.

Anyway thank you for being here I just can’t find someone sharing the same worries with me. Please tell me your daughter’s decision when it reaches her. And I hope your family all the best.

P/S: this wait is just ridiculous. I mean, UPenn has released their decisions for about 4 days now, and their pool is much larger than MHC. What is taking Moho so long?

What is taking MHC so long? I wish I knew. In 2008, MHC only received 220 ED applications, while the universities each received 10X as many, and all sent out decisions at about the same time. Staffing is likely different. Also, maybe some of MHC’s admissions people this year have been out travelling, or out sick, or there was a snow storm (there was one last week!), and everyone who needs to be there has not been available until now. At my D’s high school, the kids are cheering or crying in the halls as daily ED decisions come out (Brown, Columbia, Duke, Dartmouth, UPenn, NYU, Vassar, Smith, Amherst, Middlebury, etc. etc., and today, Dec. 15, is a Super Tuesday for EDs also). The situation (not hearing, and in particular, not knowing when news might come) is driving her nuts. If rejected, she will be very busy December 29, 30 and 31 working on other college applications since we will be away until then and she has done nothing on them since sending in the ED papers!

College Board says that MHC received 263 ED applications last year, but that is the number for two ED rounds. What about this first round? The number must be much smaller.

But decisions are delayed for those ridiculous reasons? I thought they must guarantee that there are sufficient committee members, at least!

I understand how frustrating it is not to have the results by now. My friends, one accepted to UPenn, one Smith, one Brown, and the only fate unknown is mine! Your daughter must be really, really nervous now, right? But at least she knows she has a concerned dad by her side :)

there is another student saying that she got in, so it’s like the result will not come out at the same time for everyone, right? Then when I’m feeling dizzy now :(

yeah I have been accepted with a very good financial aid, which makes my dream of attending MHC come true. I am really, really happy ^^ I can’t wait to meet your daughter there ^^

anyway this is the Facebook page of Class 2014, but I don’t know if it’s official:

I’m a little late to this thread but experienced the same situation 2 years ago. My daughter applied ED1 and strangely there was also a problem with teacher recommendations. Anyway, she was not accepted but was told in a very nice way that her application would be held for regular decision. Similarly, this caused a massive scramble to complete other apps. After a few months on pins and needles she was accepted. So to all who’ve been accepted… CONGRATULATIONS!! To those who may have been deferred, keep your hopes up and continue to show interest in a non obtrusive way. I really believe that attending the stuff like Math & Science Days and other special programs for candidates helps. On a final note I’d like to mention that I see absolutely no reason not to apply early if MHC is your first choice. If you’re a qualified candidate you’ll have that regular decision chance. P.S. Don’t ever forget to sign in at the admissions office.

My D tells me that there is now a Facebook page for the MHC Class of 2014. The one listed in the post ^^ above is MHC’s Facebook page, where you probably DON’T want to post things. Have fun and get to know one another!

oh sorry is this the page? I confused between the two, sorry what to say now, congrats to acceptees and good luck to yet-to-become Mount Holyoke ladies!
