Amherst was my son’s first choice when we started our journey. Then he really like Dartmouth. So we went back to look at Amherst and we were guided by the ONLY person from our public high school in Westchesterr to ever get in and attend Amherst. This confirmed his original opinion. We all loved it. So now we have to make his application as strong as possible. A few facts 2250 SAT, 4.49 GPA out of 4.5, top of the class, IB diploma candidate with HL in all subjects, the school has one AP class in World History and he got a 5 on the test. He has participated in Destination imagination since 4th grade, varsity lacrosse for 2 years, TA at the temple ssince 8 th grade, film maker and math lover. This is my second time around so I know that we live in a geographically competive area and he has no hooks. Are the ED stats skewed so drastically by athletes and legacy that it kills the proverbial advantage? What can he do above and beyond writing a strong essay? Anything? Why don’t they have interviews? His essay is good but he is no Philip Roth

If he loves Amherst, apply ED. Beyond a strong essay, showing interest with ED IS one of the best things he can do.

Thank you. He is applying ED. He has been working on the essay and I think it’s strong. We are all in!
