ED BU '22: Message on ApplicantLink

Hey guys, wondering if anyone can clear up this ApplicantLink Message encryption that everyone’s been talking about.

So, I am an ED 2 applicant for the Questrom School and on my ApplicantLink, the message begins with “Our records indicate,” which I have noticed in reading threads that this means you are deferred, and yet my message still includes that I am applying as an ED candidate, which people are saying is a sign that I am getting in…? Does anyone know what’s going on? I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure this out.

Exactly the same:) ED2 for Questrom. I am pretty pretty pretty nervous now.

Ahhhh, my gut says this is a deferral and I really hope not.

There are three different messages that the applicant link will show
“Our records indicate you have applied to [insert college here] as an Early Decision candidate”
This is the basic message. You get this message no matter what initially

The next two messages are what your message could later change to:
“Thank you for applying to [insert college here] as an Early Decision candidate”
This message includes Early Decision and in the past it has correlated with acceptance.

This next message is entirely different than the first:
“Our records indicate you have applied to [insert college here] for the [upcoming school year]”
This message does not include Early Decision in the message, unlike the one you get when you make the applicant account. In the past it has been correlated with referral or denial

@StudentParadox thank you so much!!! You made my day

No problem. It’s very confusing and annoying that people just call it the “our records message” when there are two different ones,

Hey guys! I also applied ED 2 and I’m super nervous. My heart skips a beat everytime I look at the applicant link

@StudentParadox I mean it is much easier to say that everyone starts out with a “our records message” just as long as the one explaining it clarifies that because personally I don’t remember the exact wording bc tbh I was so nervous last December it’s all a bit hazy!

What about RD? does it apply to RD applicants too?

@sunflowerlover It’s fine lol and congrats on getting in. I only say that because it seems to be a common point of confusion on the thread.

@StudentParadox no I absolutely agree!! it is a very big issue and important to clarify since this whole process is so confusing. thank you!!

Hi Everyone. From what I have been reading, the “messages” are accurate for ED1 but not for ED2 or RD. Someone got rejected with a thank you from ED2 for last year. I also don’t think that the messages apply to RD. FOR ED2, I think that “thank you” means accepted OR rejected. Our records WITH ED means deferred.

@Terrier29 then what does our records WITHOUT ED mean for ED2?

@sunflower488, I meant to say "our records"without ED means deferred for ED2 but I don’t think we can use the messages for ED2 to determine anything since we know one kid last year got rejected with “thank you”. One is enough to throw off the trend. I think the messages were accurate for ED1, but not for ED2. Also, has anyone received a housing email? People on other threads are receiving them and are speculating whether this is an indicator of acceptance.

@Terrier29 the housing email probably is a sign of acceptance. This morning, my ApplicantLink changed to the our records without ED, so I’m assuming deferral. Additionally, I’ve received no housing email…It’s really a shame that they won’t fix this glitch in the ApplicantLink System. It lets people know way too early whether they’ve been accepted or deferred.

@Terrier29 at this point, I’m praying that the ED2 messages aren’t accurate. This is my dream school and my odds are looking slim to none.

Are those who received the housing email EDII applicants?

@Winky1 that would be interesting to find out. Also, it would be nice to know the contents of the email. Is it general or really insinuating that you are 100% accepted to BU…?

@Sunflowers488 don’t worry! Even if you are deferred, that means that you still have a chance!! My son has “thank you” without a housing email, so I am presuming that this is a rejection. I wonder if the ED1 accepted students received a housing email along with the “thank you”.

@Terrier29 I have a friend who applied ED1, and she confirmed that yes, she did receive a housing email along with her acceptance. Best of luck to your son; let me know if he ends up getting in!
