That is such a gross misstatement it’s not even racist.

I’m from Miami where everyone is Hispanic, and I can tell you even only anecdotally, there were tons of qualified Hispanic applicants who were rejected from top schools.

Your senior year schedule is great. If you can pull As in all of those, enough to pull up your weighted and unweighted GPA, you will be in great shape.
Also, try studying and taking the ACT again, if you can before the ED deadline. Shoot for a 32+.

Other than that you look to be in great shape.

A lot of students cannot participate in any school-sponsored ECs or sports because they don’t have the means to stay after school for practices/meetings/etc, and it isn’t until the student gets a car (11th grade for most) that they can finally participate in clubs.

o ok. How about for example, my situation? I started out in one school club and chorus freshman year, then I started adding different things on like sports, other clubs and community service soph and junior years. I mean I know there’s nothing I can do about it now but some of the things I joined last year were for Juniors and Seniors exclusively bc it calls for us to leave school in the middle of the day @ random times. I just hope it doesn’t seem like I joined for colleges bc I honestly was not even aware of all of these fine details in admissions until like March lol.

“A person with no ECs 9th/10th and several large leadership roles in 11th/12th is leagues ahead of the dabbler from 9th-12th.”

Both of them are behind someone with leadership who began activities earlier.

“Clubs in 9th and 10th grade are absolutely not necessary, and your application being hurt by not having them IS deniable.”

I did not claim them to be necessary. I have heard over a dozen admissions officers respond directly to situations such as this in almost the exact same way: circumstances will be considered, but an applicant dedicated for a longer amount of time is favorable. I don’t see how one can responsibly deny what the admissions officers say.

first off thank you for all of the replies!
second- i transfered schools from freshman year to sophmore year due to parents divorce etc. This is the main reason i was not necessarily involved in clubs my sophmore year. However, i did join FBLA sophmore year and had to wait for spanish honor society until the next year because i was a new student. But for those who replied saying my involvement was next to none 9th-10th, what about sports, work, and volunteering? I appologize for leaving out my athletic involvement… Soccer 9-12th captain this year Baseball-9th-10th Tennis 11th- 12th. So overall extracurricular involvement is not exclusive to clubs, right?
