I'm applying ED to the College and have legacy(grandfather and aunt)
I go to the top public school in the nation so that should count for something
female, from Virginia

also post-AP Multivariable Calc and Linear Algebra, I recieved college credit by dual enrolling at George Mason University

Recs: Counselor rec should be good, 2 very good teachers recs, one is from my AP Chem teacher, one of my strong subjects. The other is from my AP US teacher, who was also our teacher advisor for student government, and history is my other strongest subject

All my classes are honors level, so I'm not going to bother writing that every time, but this has been my schedule

Junior:

AP Stat
Spanish 4

ECs:
Crew- 4 years, very competitive team and very time consuming, even off-season. Co-captain for senior year, I won't go into specifics because they mean nothing to non-rowers, although I may put them on my application. I am hoping to row at Penn and talked to the coaches this summer when I was there for rowing camp.

Student Government- 4 years, class officer freshman, sophomore, junior year, will be invovled with class council senior year

UNICEF Club Member- 2 years, I don't have any leadership in this club, but I was a member

NHS- 2 years

Awards:

-National Spanish Exam Gold Award
-Academic Letter for 3 years
-Northern Region Athletic Honor Roll

Volunteering/Work:

2 Summers working at a doctor's office

I just started working at a gym at the front desk, I have 3 shifts a week and will be continuing through the school year

SAT Outreach tutoring- I only did this for a few months because it ended up conflicting with rowing(like everything ends up doing eventually), but it was my most significant volunteering, providing free SAT tutoring

I've also helped out with a liturgical dance company(religious dance). I dont dance anymore, but I dance a few times and mainly have helped out with technical aspects. I danced for 10 years before high school, but is this significant enough to mention on my app?

Summer:
2007: Summer Computer Science( its a graduation requirement, and I took art instead of taking it during the year)
2008: Summer Program at Princeton University
2009: Quaker Rowing Camp at Penn, taking care of my younger sister since my mom went back to work, and working

I also do yoga on a pretty regular basis, and love to read and draw. I played the cello for about 5 years also, but had to drop it freshmen year. I'm not sure if any of that should be going on my application though

I'm very committed to my ECs though, so I don't have too many of them.

If you actually made it through all of that, what do you think my chances are?

You look good. They only thing that may be an issue, is strong leadership. The rowing will definately help. I would say the most important thing at this point is strong essays. Strong recommedations are also very important, ones that are personalized that really show who you are. Not just the she is a great student, blah, blah. Penn gets tons of apps from great students, it seems they look for leaders, people who stand out for one reason or another and maturity. Best of luck to you!

given decent essays and rec’s-- I would be surprised if you did not get in ED. But admissions is a tricky thing to predict.

okay yr aunt doesn’t count as a legacy and idk if grandparents really count. u don’t have strong ecs but if i were u i would definitely apply ed because of the “Quaker Rowing Camp at Penn” anything like that affiliated w/ the university helps A LOT, especially when applying ed.

best of luck : )

^
actually the grandparents DO really count

from the website:

Yes, grandfather DOES count as legacy. You have an excellent chance, stats, gpa, and extracurriculars are great. I agree emphasize leadership in the essays. Apply ED for sure to get the legacy boost. Get ready for that acceptance in December!
