ED/EA Recs Deadline... + Naviance?

Hi guys so I'll be doing ED at Columbia and EA at a couple of schools, all requiring rec letters with a Nov 1st app deadline.

So what's the latest my teachers can use Naviance to submit their letters? I already talked to them and requested them, but I don't think they have been submitted to Naviance, nor updated to CommonApp?

So can I submit my CommonApp and then have the rec letters sent directly via Naviance to schools? It's so confusing at my school.

Thanks for any insight!

You don’t submit the recommendation, your teachers do. You just submit the application and supplement. The recommendation will be sent/uploaded by the teachers in whatever means that could be done after or before your application submission. The deadline for the recommendation would be up to individual schools. Ideally, you want everything in before the deadline. But some times, schools would give a grace period for everything to come in but your application still must be submitted by the deadline.

I believe it’s only the student’s responsibility to have the student portion of the app completed and submitted on time. Everything else has a different deadline. If it’s something like a transcript or rec letter, the college generally will contact the college advisor at your high school to move things along. If things don’t arrive in time, you get moved to RD.

YMMV.

Right so that’s what I thought, but if I submit the CommonApps first, how will I be able to use the pick and choose assign recommender option?

I’m not sure if I understand your latest question. You should pick/assign your recommenders BEFORE you submit your Common App to the first school. Then it is up to the teacher/high school to submit them. From what I am told by my daughter, you do this both on Naviance and on Common App…
