ED / Financial Aid

Hello! I’m an international student from Brazil who is going to apply ED to NU. I got 32 on the ACT, 790 on SAT2 Spanish, 680 on SAT2 Math 1 and 105 on TOEFL.

I’m currently ranked 1st out of 170 students. My EC’s include President of the Student Council (participated in all 4 yrs of High School), co-founder of first school’s newspaper, Captain of school’s volleyball team and Intern at the Federal Court of Brazil. I’ve also been volunteering for AFS Intercultural Programs. I’ve written on my own personal blog since 2010. I also hold a YouTube channel where I talk about academic opportunities and teach English to Portuguese speakers. Earlier this year I was selected by the US Department of State among more than 14,000 students to represent Brazil in the US as a Youth Ambassador; and in July I received a full-scholarship for a one-month language exchange program in Argentina. I’m also an EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Scholar in Brazil – a program that helps low-income students to get into American universities. I’m telling you this because they will send an endorsement letter recommending me.

I guess both my PS and my Why NU are great.

I will definitely apply to Medill, but what bothers me is the fact that I’ll need a full-ride to attend NU. Do you think my financial needs might hurt my application? Is it possible that even if I have a chance they’ll deferral my app to regular decision? Due to this, is it worth it to apply early?

Thank you so much in advance!

UP!

Northwestern has an entire section on International Students and financial aid. According to their website they are need aware for International Students.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I’ve read their website. But what I’d like to know is if they save greatest amounts to be offered to students accepted under RD.

Northwestern is need-blind so no, your financial need will not hurt your chances. I’m banking on the same thing. If you do get accepted ED but don’t find your financial aid package good enough, you can withdraw from the ED agreement.

Thanks, @skilletfaith =)
