Well, the day for ED results to be released has finally arrived. As you find out your decision, feel free to post the good news on the forum. I am sure you all had a difficult night last night, waiting for the news to be posted. Regardless, your hard work is now done. If you are satisfied with your ED offer, you have a little while to let us know. Evaluate your options and carefully consider the decision you are about to make.

YAY!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!

you're going, right?

...i wonder why the envelopes and statements of intent are blue. they aren't blue for converse. purple envelopes and statements would be kind of cool.

I haven't gotten an envelope yet, I checked online. One of my good friends is also in, we found out at the same time (5:05 PM at my house).

If I get any form of financial aid/scholarship money I should be a Paladin in the fall.

I don't know if you have facebook, but if you do you should join Furman Class of 2011!

dude, furman. what the crap...

clasizzle of 2011.

take that home. chew on it. it's delicious.

(2011 is such an awkward number...)

Lol, I hope the numbers are as nice to me as well!

Too bad, the numbers arent. OSU here I come, sadly.

Sometimes I wish they had never accepted me.

Kid, sorry to hear it. Don't do anything rash before calling them and discussing it. Maybe they missed something, maybe you or your parents did. Good luck -- and if you really don't want to go to OSU, there's still time (not much, admittedly) for putting some applications in to schools that have a good rep for merit aid. Post on the Parents Forum if you're looking for ideas.

Thanks Iderochi. I think I might actually try for Arizona, as they give "full rides" for National Merit Finalists.

In response to your financial concern, kidfromohio, please make sure you contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss the situation and review your package. I am assuming you applied for financial aid and were not only looking for merit based awards. If not, contact FinAid to review the possibilities. Furman has a large endowment and many sources from which to draw grants. They also are great at arranging work study. Remember, you can personally take out a loan. While this does not sound like a great choice for you now, note that an education of Furman's quality would likely be the best investment you will ever make. The caliber of students, faculty, and resources are worth the risk. Many employers have loan forgivement programs, where they will help you to clear this educational debt. I am confident that the university will use all means available to make your hopeful attendance an acceptable option. If not, rest assured that one's college experience is what he puts into it. Find a group of fellow students, faculty, and organizations you enjoy and you will certainly thrive. Best wishes. Feel free to contact me directly for any specific questions. -A

No offence HOBNYC, but by the initial offer Furman just does not sound interested. At all.

But the best advice I can give to all those going to Furman is enjoy it to the fullest! It is an amazing school and I got to share a night with some of the great people that go there, which was one of ht ebest nites of my life. Enjoy it while you can.

To those of you who are frustrated with the Financial Aid offers provided by Furman, please do not leave with frustration. Contact Martin Carney, the director of undergraduate Financial Aid and discuss the situation. Recognize that we also offer departmental scholarships outside the confines of our merit based program and need-based grants. Furman does all it can to make attending our school affordable. The university grows in selectivity each and every year, making the major merit awards often out of reach for some prospective students. This does not mean, however, that Furman is not 'interested' in your attendance. Please bear in mind the quality of the investment a Furman education is and take that thought with you when making a four year decision. Contact financial aid and see if your case may be given another glance. Make sure that your final decisions are not rash ones, especially if Furman is an institution you feel may be a good fit for you. Happy New Year from Furman!

Hello, I was just searching through this forum and came across this thread. I am very proud to say that my daughter was accepted ED to Furman and although her financial package was very thoughtful and well appreciated it is still going to be hard to come up with the balance. My husband and I are not rich, but we are not poor either. Because if this we did not get alot of financial aid, or atleast not what we had expected since we also have 3 other children that are dependant on us. We do feel that Furman is worth it though and our daughter has worked really hard these last 4 years of high school to get to this point and we feel that she deserves the best. She could have applied to some of the Ivy League schools where they focus more on financial need, but we are from South Carolina and she chose to stay near home. And she also will be getting money for that through the lottery. She applied for the Hollingsworth scholarship, but no luck and now we are just applying for every scholarship that matches and hoping to offset some of the debt that we will have. The only thing that I am saddened about is that all we really can offer her is her 1st year at Furman. After that she will unfortunately be on her own financially. She will ofcourse have to keep her GPA up so that she can continue to receive her merit scholarships but she will probably be looking into student loans. She has 3 other brothers that deserve a college education also and although they may not get into a private school or for that matter even want to, they still may want to go to a public university. She is fine with all of this, she feels that the education that she will be paying for will be well worth it in the long run and she feels that definately after graduation from college and then graduate school all the money that she ends up having to pay back will not be that big of hardship if the goals that she has set for her career become reality.
