ED II Chances?

Hi. I've already applied to Midd early decision II and I just want to know what others think of my chances.
I go to a pretty competitive public high school in New York.
GPA:93.61 as of end of junior year. It has gone from a high 91 in freshman yr to mid 92 in soph yr then a 95.21 jr yr with APs. Already got a 93.67 average first quarter taking 4 APs and an Honors class.
SATs: My superscore is CR:690, M:710 and W:670, 2040 not superscored
SAT IIs: Bio E:700 as a frshmn Chem:720 US History:770 Math II:730
APs so far: Chem and US Hist: 4s (should've gotten a 5 in USH)
Current yr classes: SS/English seminar (counts as both), AP Spanish, AP Euro History, AP Calc AB, AP Bio
ECs:4yrs varsity hockey, 2yrs varsity lacrosse, 2yrs jv lacrosse, I work at a ski shop all year long (even during sport seasons), no major community service events (scattered ones from here and there ~20hrs).

I don’t think you will make it, sorry. Scores, grades are low and lack of community service is big for Midd. Better have a back up plan. Just send your SAT2s, your SAT1s will hurt your chances.

well, obviously I hope your wrong, but thanks for your insight, it does help. I may have understated my community service. That’s about what i’ve done in past years, but I’ve been more involved in other clubs and NHS tutoring, which count as community service. Also, (no exaggeration) when I’m not playing sports, i’m working and vice versa so I hope they realize that.

Community service is neither the most important or an important part of the decision process. According to Midd’s published data, community service is only “considered.” Many high schools require community/volunteer service as a graduation requirement. It’s also required by most high school honor societies and other organizations. Needless to say, when community service is required, it diminishes the altruistic value. No diffident than when I threaten to swip my daughter’s car or cosmetics until she cleans the kitty litter. It gets done, but it doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling ;)

Good luck Ciaran.

Hey guys I know “chance me” posts are the worst, there must be some of you out there who love it and I would really love your opinions  I am planning on trying to convert my already submitted regular decision application to ED2.

Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Not sure, its changed quite a bit in the past year
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None :/

Strengths: Near top of the class, community service, extracurriculars
Weaknesses: Focused on school not sports and I live somewhat close, no hooks, low SATs, last quarter I got a B- in gym (lowest grade ever in a CP1 course, and second lowest grade overall [C- in US History Sophomore year- hardest teacher in high school]) because I was sick and the teacher didn’t have a heart (next quarter I will get an A though)
Why are you applying ED: I have looked at all the other schools I could possibly see myself at and no school gave me quite the same feeling as Middlebury, I am not applying as an advantage, but rather because it is the best school for me and I am so interested in it.

I think you look good. Don’t send the SAT1, it cannot help you. The ACT makes up for it, I hope you took it with writing and scored reasonably.
You have the grades, the scores, the courses, the ECs AND the community service.
It’s a crap shoot, nonetheless, but I think you have a better than 50-50 shot.
Good Luck!
And good luck to Ciaran, too of course.
I hope everyone gets in, but unfortunately there are not enough spots for all the qualified students. With 2 children at Midd, and some connections to the college admission process at selective schools,as well as personal admissions experience, I feel I can help folks by advising them from my perspective. I sure don’t know it all, but I hope I have been able to help some students and parents give their children realistic advise.
