same acceptance rate, but many many many fewer acceptances?????

i've heard 100??

same acceptance rate, but many many many fewer acceptances?????

i've heard 100??

who told you 100? waht about RD then, 3?

yeah, I'm also curious where you saw this. I thought that Emory only released combined ED acceptances?

A bit off-topic but why do people apply ED II anyways? I remember seeing something that said a few years ago EDII rivaled EDI in the number applying. The only reason I can think to apply EDII is if another EDI college denied an applicant before Emory's EDII deadline.

i actually saw it in another post...on the main page for Emory University right now........

I cannot take credit for these stats, but here they are: Source: combined EMory Wheel article of 02/02/07 Admissions: Applications Rise 7.8%, Breaking Records Again | The Emory Wheel and class profile on Emory admissions page:

Class of 2011: 1,265
% of the class decided through both rounds of ED: 34% (430) From the profile page

From Emory Wheel article of 2/2/07:

Emory received 858 applications for Early Decision I, which had a deadline of Nov. 1, and 730 for Early Decision II, which had a Jan. 1 deadline. Last year, there were 14,222 total applicants for the class of 2010, including 647 for Early Decision I and 788 for Early Decision II.

Emory admitted 43 percent of applicants in this year's Early Decision I process, but the admissions office had not completed applicant review for Early Decision II by press time.

Doing the math: 858 X 43%= 368 students admitted EDI
The total admitted under early decision plan is 34% of the entering class, which is 430 students, that leaves approximately 62 students admitted EDII.....

Please let me know if you think there is a flaw in this analysis....yes, it surprised us as well, but actually persuaded us to stick with our RD application....

There's no way that can be right....

I did notice something slightly off about your analysis, rodney:
"Class of 2011: 1,265
% of the class decided through both rounds of ED: 34% (430) From the profile page"
but in the article in The Emory Wheel it says:
"This year's freshman class has 1,340 students thanks to a higher-than-expected yield of admitted students who decided to attend Emory."

wouldn't that slightly raise the numbers?

"A record 15,374 students applied to be a part of Emory’s Class of 2011, and 1,265 enrolled, just surpassing the Office of Admission’s goal of 1,255."....this is from September....Not sure the difference in numbers.....(about 75?)

and from the class profile page on the Emory Admissions site:

The following statistics are for the Emory College first-year class, which will begin in the fall of 2007.

Applications
Applied 15,366
Admitted 27%
Enrolled 1269

julien: the article from Emory Wheel that I cited was dated 2/2/07....I have a feeling that the quote "this year's class" refers to the class of 2010, since RD was not even completed yet at that point....

I guess this is no solid evidence, but I remember a while back before i decided to apply ED II, my mom told me the acceptance rate was the same to that of ED I.... I'll try to find where she read that

that's a very good point rodney, I didn't think of that...

Hotchilly: I didn't mean to freak everyone out....the stuff I posted was directly from the Emory Wheel article and from data on the class profile page....the link you provided had no substantiation....as I said earlier, there may be flaws in the data I found, but I'm not sure how to confirm....If anyone else can chime in, please do....

Just understand that if EDI acceptance rate was 43% of 830 AND EDII was the same, the Emory article stated that EDII apps were approx 750. If the acceptance rates were the same for EDI and EDII, 750 X.43%=322....that would mean that Emory takes close to 700 students ED....that would be close to 55% of the class.....that cannot be accurate.....it specifically states on the class profile that 34% of the class was admitted ED.

I have a feeling that Emory Wheel will have a similar article written sometime in the beginning of February which will clarify some of the numbers for this year....

you have no idea how much those numbers scare me...

how is that possible..wouldn' it yield and acceptance ED II rate of about 8%....and wouldn't that drastically bring down the ED combined rate which is supposedly very high?

doctor: I can't figure it out either...when I first saw these numbers I was honestly shocked...No idea what's going on, but it's in print......

"drastically bring down the ED combined rate which is supposedly very high?"...I think the key word there is "supposedly"....Where did everyone get the idea that the ED rate was so high? From EDI?

Let's hope for your sake that this year is different.....

"Let's hope for your sake that this year is different....."
well, according to the article the class of 2010 had more EDII than EDI applications. if it turns out like that this year too it means more EDIIs accepted, right?

I can only hope =/

so how much room it leaves to the RD?

this is honestly the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. i just can't imagine them having a mere 8% acceptance rate for ED II kids. it makes absolutely no sense to me.

i am honestly befuddled.

agree, I need to know from an adcom if there is truth to these statistics, otherwise, why to bother applying to RD if ED will accept only 8 percent. Any admissions people around?

you mean why bother applying ED II ?

i really cannot believe that there would be an 8% acceptance rate for ED II....they said last year their combined ED accept. rate was high i know it wasn't in the 20's it was prob in the 30's or 40's but if we go by these numbers then we are left with an accept. rate of:

27% which is probably around where they admit for RD............meaning that they accept roughly 12600 x .27=3402 students RD + 430 they admit ED I+II which is 3830 kids roughly....

i have no idea if that made any sense, it probably doesn't, and if it does it probably proves Rodney right

GOD DAMNIT
