ED Predictions

You know what I LOVE about CC? People here actually "get it" for the most part. At school people are like "OMG you're definitely going to get in" even though I tell them repeatedly that Princeton is quite a selective school and that I will (98% chance) get deferred. Its annoying.

I know! And if you try to explain it, they just think you're being snotty to create more awe when you are "definantly accepted"

starry I get exactly what you mean lol.. people are like if you dont get in columbia then I'm not gona get in anywhere.. I'm like.. er.... yea riiight.

seems like the princeton prediction thread's more sucessful than the columbia one... GL to everyone here! hugs

I'm a freshman at Princeton right now and I think you are all looking into this a little to deeply. I thought everyone here was going to be amazing, but believe it or not we are all quite human. Granted there are a lot of people here who had amazing grades, SAT scores, etc, but there are also a lot of people here who weren't exactly at the top of their class. I have met plenty of people here with SAT scores less than 1500 and even more people who got 3s and even some 2s and 1s on AP Exams. There isn't a formula to selecting the class. Try not to worry so much, be optimistic. Good luck to everyone

Finally, some reassuring thoughts. Thanks, oakey

My guidance counselor was actually rejected by PennState, and thought her world was over. Then she was accepted into Columbia... odd, yes, but hey... :)

Hey, thanks oakey29!

I was actually wonderinig if any Princeton people read this.

(ehm, btw admissions officers- if any of you are reading this (why would you be? you have much better things to do!) all snarky evil comments were typed by my uhm, pet cactus which I uhm...genetically cloned to write and think when I was five. no. a fetus.)

prediction: defer, cos i aint got no hook.

prediction: rejected

Reason: bad SAT scores

hairypotty, how bad? sat scores are not all that matter, i am sure mnie is not any better than yours.

Prediction: Differed

Why; No major hooks I guess. I just kind off fall into the masses. I was hoping a good SAT score would really help but based on the stuff you guys said i guess not. Well there'a always Columbia

prediction: 20000% chance of acceptance

Why: Because I'm a lucky SOB :p

No reall, here is what I really think:

Prediction: accepted, or more ilkely deferred and then accepted

Why: My SATs/Rank are good enough to prevent me from being eliminated off the bat. AP English teacher wrote in her rec that I was one of her top writers in her career (my essays reflect this, even if my AP score of 3 doesn't.)

If it's anything that's gonna pull me through though, it's gonna be my essays and scientific research. How many math/science buffs also happen to be their school's top writer and musician, and a school record holder in varsity swimming (I'm not a recruit)?

Yes, I am very confident, but I'm also keeping things in perspective. I do know that many many others like me will apply. I'm still churning out on my essays for other schools as I anxiously wait for some type of letter.

Here I Come:

I find a math/science buff + creative writer + swimming + musician an attractive 'package'. Best of luck to you.

Damn I wish I was that confident. Too bad......

CollegeHereI_Come: yeah the AP English test was a biatch. I was able to obtain the elusive 5 and I plus 3 other people were the only ones that did it at my school.. I know at least 130 kids took the test! Most people I know got 3's and they are excellent writers.. who knows.

you also didn't try for Princeton swimming? I would think you might have had a chance holding a school record... I'm a varsity swimmer too, but I'm sick of the water and decided against it for college life.. maybe you're the same way.

Since Pton says it's going to get 500 more students by fall of 2012 (means class of 2016), I predict the class size next year will be 83 (500/6) more people than this year.

Therefore, 42+ spaces for ED people = higher admission rate by increasing 1.9% (75/2200 about). I estimate 30% (from last year's 29%) for ED acceptance rate this year for Class of 2010! Notice, not 1.9% but 1% increment due to 10% in applicants. Good luck to everybody.

The person below me will have to agree with my calculations...

as posted in other thread

I don't belive that would be correct. Not CLASS of 2012, BY 2012. ("Enrollment is expected to reach 5,200 students in the fall of 2012.") So that would mean class of 2016.
Since that is 6 years away I would assume they might add an equal amount each year ~84 (maybe even less then 84 for the first few years with the destruction of Butler)

Best case scenario, around 42 more spots for ED people ~1.9%.
But i hear the number is probably going to be more like 50 added students making the number ~1%
Thus, ED rates I think will actually DECREASE with the jump in applicants

I think rates are going to be closer to 27 percent

Prediction:Accept
Reason--refuse to be any thing other than optimistc.

50% accepted
50% deferred

i like to always view it as 50/50
