I applied and was accepted ED at Rice. It has always been my first choice, but after a recent visit with my cousins who attend large state schools such as UNC, I have started to doubt slightly that Rice was my first choice. Is this common? I'm mostly worried that I will be bored after hearing about the fabulous parties that frats hold. I'm hoping this is just a phase.

pano -- I think you have a classic case of buyer's remorse. The best thing to do is to focus on what it is that attracted you to Rice initially. Get excited about what it will be like to attend school there. Don't focus on the "what ifs". Jump in with both feet. If, for some reason, after giving it all your energy you think you'd rather be somewhere else, you can always look into transferring. I think you'll find that Rice's social environment and many parties will not have you wishing for a Greek scene.

yo man, rice was my back up and i payed my deposit first at duke first expecting a fun party school.

the choice of coming to rice was the best decision of my life, you make friends here a lot faster than at big state schools and the parties are absolutely SICK (NoD, getchyeroxxoff)

trust me, i have friends from UT who stayed with me and are blown away by the party atmosphere.

(rice was named number one for undergrad social life among private schools btw)
