ED verses Regular?

I’ve seen several people say that students with SAT’s that are around 2000 not to apply ED because they will immediately get rejected for it. Is there a truth to this , and if so, what SAT falls into this category? I have a 2170 and I’m wondering if this puts me in this category.

JHU does superscore so make sure you take that into account.

This is just people speculating based on hearsay or possibly based on some limited data like who was accepted this past cycle, but this is not an official threshold held by the school. Keep in mind that students who are accepted are accepted for a variety of reasons and not just test scores. If you’re interested in applying ED to other schools then you will need to determine how much more competitive of an applicant you will be for the other school(s) and whether you want to take the risk of applying ED at JHU with reduced odds of being accepted (whatever those odds may be).

Here is a press release from Hopkins on the ED Stats of the 2019 class: http://releases.jhu.edu/2014/12/12/johns-hopkins-welcomes-1st-members-of-class-of-2019/

Hopkins doesn’t provide SAT stats for ED students (from what I can tell), but ED stats are typically lower than RD stats (you can attribute some of that to athletes and legacy students). An example of lower stats is seen when comparing percent of students accepted in top 10% of their class (percent is higher for RD than ED). While 50th percentile SAT scores for RD are higher than your score, that still means 50% of students accepted had scores listed OR LOWER.

Wait I’m confused… are you saying applying ed would give me “reduced odds of being accepted” or a better chance since ED stats are lower? Or is that just based on stats only and once you have reasonable stats it just comes down to multiple other factors? @NixonDenier

Applying ED shouldn’t lower your odds of being accepted RD since most ED applicants are reconsidered in RD (though not all since some applicant are outright rejected during ED). I just (unclearly) meant that odds are lower applying JHU ED then applying ED at other less-competitive schools. Your stats are undoubtedly below 50th percentile stats for ED acceptances, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get accepted. I know CC has a forum for JHU ED last cycle if you want to see what stats did and did not get accepted, though the veracity of these posts is questionable so don’t rely on them too heavily.

Alright thanks that clears it up a bit. Do you know where I can access the stats for ED acceptances?

@NixonDenier

Keep in mind that people who are rejected tend not to post on these forums: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/johns-hopkins-university/1717635-johns-hopkins-class-of-2019-results-ed.html
