<p>Approximately 1/3 of the student body had financial need, so Davidson's student body is fairly affluent. As with any top school, though, you have a good mix of people from all sorts of different backgrounds. Duke draws a very similar crowd, and I haven't felt uncomfortable at all.</p>
<p>If financial aid is a major issue, I would strongly advise against applying ED, even if it is your first choice. The ability to compare offers is essential because you're likely to get a range of offers. Some colleges can be hit-or-miss in financial aid, so it's awkward to be locked into ED. Applying ED is likely to limit your chances at a merit scholarship. I was pretty unhappy with my offer from Davidson, but they were pretty helpful about revising it.</p>
