My D is very interested in Kenyon, but doesn't want to aply anywhere ED1, largely because she believes her first semester grades will be helpful to the adcom. She is thinking of doing ED2. Does anyone know whether ED2 gives as much of a boost to the application as ED1? If not, how does it compare to RD?

I can't speak from personal experience with the ED1 and 2. However, I do know Kenyon appreciates interest, and ED2 shows the student is excited to attend. So ED2 may give you a slight boost over RD. If financial aid is a concern, I would check into ED2 vs. RD in that regard.

Is this a question I could call the Kenyon admissions people about?

"Applicants who believe their fall-semester grades or the results of standardized tests taken in December will be important to their candidacy should choose this option." - About ED2 from Kenyon website: http://www.kenyon.edu/x1922.xml

They claim no advantage for ED2, over RD, except for the smaller group of applicants. I would encourage you to apply ED if you are not going to stand out as one of the best in RD, as you will be noticed easier in ED.

As per calling Kenyon, I would only do so if you have a question about financial aid, or any other question, and not about ED giving you an advantage. Perhaps that is what you meant, but I couldn't tell from your post.

And by "you" I mean your daughter for the apply part. Parents are encouraged to contact the financial aid dept with questions.

Thanks. I have seen some of your other posts - you are a good ambassador for Kenyon! My D has visited twice and interviewed, and she is in love with the school. I worry a bit that it may seem too small (not in year 1, but maybe later) because we live in NYC, but she felt immediately at home.

Thank you for the praise. I try to do my part in answering questions honestly and helping Kenyon hopefuls. I wish your daughter the best of luck, and hope she will get to enjoy four years on the hill!
