ED2 chances please! a stretch

Hi! I could definitely use some help, I applied ED2 very last minute and I know its a major stretch for me, I'd appreciate some input!
State: VA, small private school
GPA: 3.5 weighted, class rank isn't done at my school
SAT: 1620
APUSH: 4. AP English Language (self studied): 3.
Taking AP Gov and AP English Lit this year, with another english, a regular science and a regular math course.
My huge faux pas is my D+ on my transcript last year in APUSH in second semester but it was due to medical issues so I sent in a letter from my doctor explaining so as well.
I also finished with a C+ in math this first semester :/

Lots of community service, NYLC attendee, SDLC (Student Diversity Leadership Conference) delegate, Latin Club Tribune, Italian club, Battle of the Brains, Prom Committee Treasurer, lots of acting experience, a few internships, manager of boys varsity lacrosse. I also have a job as a waitress and a previous job as a barn hand.

I'm applying to the Columbian College, my essay was very strong, my why GW essay was alright, and my recs are awesome. I didn't have an interview and I visited once but I have a connection with the man who was previously the head of a major department at GW and is now the CFO at a media company (no specifics to protect his identity).

Sooo...?

Sorry to say this, I think your SAT is really too low, and combined with those transcript flaws, I think you probably will not be admitted. I hope I’m wrong, though.

Where else did you apply?

I knew that would kill me :frowning: I hope you’re wrong too though, thank you! I’ve been in constant contact with my regional admissions officer since October and he says regular decision I’d probably have no chance but he says he’ll go to bat for me because of my persistance and continued interest. I also hope my connection will help, he’s a big influence supposedly. I applied to 12 schools. I’ve already been admitted to Drew and deferred from Pitt. I also applied to American, Bennington, Delaware, Depaul, Emerson, UNC Asheville, Sarah Lawrence, Uni of Vermont, and VCU.

At GW, persistance and interest is noted- I hope it helps you.

I’m glad you already have one admission- good luck with the rest.

I was recently accepted EDI and i can attest to the fact that it’s not all about scores. I had good essays, good recs, and persistence but a horrendous GPA/class rank.

If the person you know is important enough, see if they would go up to bat for you and send out a few e-mails, make a few phone calls or grease some palms.

It sounds like you have a possible, but uncertain, chance.

good luck!

aah you just made my day! Thank you so much! Hopefully they see beyond my scores. I know academically I can handle the work it’s not that I’m worried about that and I’ve made it clear to my admissions rep, so let’s hope they understand! Thanks again, and congrats!

wmurphy126, would you mind posting your stats?

Sure, I did have pretty good ACT scores (i retook them and got a 31) but im pretty sure these are the ones i sent:

SAT: 1750 (idk if that got sent or not, they should’ve been sent but I think the SAT website sent them or something)
ACT: 30 (31 after applied)
GPA: 3.4 UW, 4.1 W (though our school weights it out of 7.5, not 5.0)
EC: Robotics Club, Interact Club

and I did have somewhat of a good hook with an internship I had. But, like i said, I think GW looks past the pure scores into each person. This is a smart idea because it makes for a unique school.

Good luck!

how many times have you taken the sat? have you tried the act? odds are you will get deferred, which will leave you time to retake the test. (may be a blessing in disguise)

gl.

I’ve only taken it twice, I’m not at all a good test taker. But I think if I get deferred I definitely am going to try again on the sat and try the act! The only reason I feel like I may not be is because my rep said I would have little chance with regular decision, but I would most definitely rather be deferred and have another shot then be denied, of course.

Thank you so much everyone for the advice!

I know GW doesn’t defer for ED1, so I’m assuming they don’t for ED2 either (meaning, you’re either accepted or rejected)

you may be right, then again waitlists are another way of saying “there is a hole in your application, however if you can fix it and continue to show interest in our school there may be a spot for you depending on what our yields look like”. i don’t see why they wouldn’t stick the ED2 apps and the reg decision apps in the same waitlist pool since they have the same application deadlines.

GOT IN! Thanks so much everyone for the advice and such and chancing me! SO STOKED TO BE A COLONIAL!

wow. proof they actually read your applications.
