EDI applicants, did you receive anything confirming your application?

Hi,
I am an international EDI applicant and I haven't received anything from CMU, confirming that they've received my application. I don't even have login credentials to check my app status.

So, did you receive anything from CMU?

I am an EDII applicant and they sent me an envelope confirming the parts of my application that they had recieved, along with my ID number so that I can check my application status on their website. Maybe it takes the letter longer to reach you since you are international. Good luck.

CarnegieMellon - I’m waiting for the ID number. Would you mind let me know when you send the application and when you have the confirmation (ID number)? Thanks.

I believe that they send the letter out after you have paid the application fee. I submitted the application and paid the fee on the 26th of November and they sent it out after that. I recieved the letter within a week.

Thank you.

I still got nothing. Why aren’t they sending emails instead of using postal mail? It is cheaper, faster and requires less human attention.

My kid sent out the application and fee for EDII on 11/30, when we will have the confirm letter with ID number? Shall we call the office to get it?

(CMU is a top tech school, don’t understand why they send the confirmation by snail mail not e-mail?)

mehappykid: "(CMU is a top tech school, don’t understand why they send the confirmation by snail mail not e-mail?) "

The snail mail confirmation comes with a warm letter from DOA (IMHO one of the nicer ones received by either S or D during the admissions cycles), an informative CD (sure same stuff online) and some other information. Some people enjoy having a piece of paper to place into a file they may be keeping for each school. For RD applicants with 7+, 10+ etc. schools, April 1 can be frantic finding all the old emails in one’s inbox with login IDs to check status-- having a paper copy is an advantage sometimes.

I can also remember the rather impersonal touch my D felt when she learned of her first college acceptance-- an unexpected email from University of Michigan during late November: “you’re in- click here for more info”-- WHAT? She was looking forward to a large package in the mail. So it seems kinda nice to get the some hard copy materials - even with the trees it may kill in the process.

If accepted to CMU, your S will most certainly treasure the really unique way CMU sends acceptances-- and I will not spoil it by leaking its contents here. It’s a great envelope!

do ed I kids still find out on december 15th? my counselor told me it might get pushed back. If they did where on their website would they post it?

Nothing on the website says it’s been delayed but Carnegie didn’t meet any of the EA, ED or RD dates last year for some students-- they were simply overwhelmed and a few days late- -some RD students waited a week later.
So don’t read no news as bad news…it’s just no news. DON’T WORRY!
I wholeheartedly would expect it to be late and then be pleasantly surprised if happens on time- this way you will not worry for nothing.

In the past, they snail mailed first and then “where am I results” were released 3 days later online. Internationals had to pay extra to get it fedexed or it was a few weeks until arrival in some settings.

ED GUYS-- it’s a THIN LETTER – don’t worry if you see a thin letter in the mailbox-- the ED acceptances come in a thin envelope. The big package of info arrives with the RD students in March when it’s printed later.

thanks mom2012and14 i didnt know it was a thin envelope

got another question: if they were to run late in sending it via mail, will they still post the decisions online on the 18th/ three days after they are officially done? How does that work???

It’s three days after the actual mail is sent, whenever that date happens to be. So if decisions aren’t released until, say, the 17th, then your online decision would be posted on the 20th.

I think the general principle behind it is that they HOPE that the actual paper letter gets to you first - and if it doesn’t make it in three days, you can check online as a “backup” method.

Sadly-- you just gotta accept the fact that there is a reasonable chance you are not going to know by snail mail, email or through telepathy by December 15 - -and if you do hear, then consider it a bonus.
CMU gets swamped and they try their best.
You will know before the holidays–b/c they want to go home for the holidays too!

It’s painful to wait- but you got to do it–try to find something to distract youself-- holiday shopping.

The only possible thing left to do if you don’t hear on December 15 is call them – or ask your GC to phone and they might tell him/her the result on December 16 just to be nice. You never know what good moods someone picking up the phone might be willing to do during the holiday season. Don’t call on the 15th…give it another day or so.

hi, i’m an international EDI applicant. I applied on 27th Oct and CMU sent out the recipient letter on Nov 1 immediately… I got the letter by 11 Nov, but actually asked for the admission ID by email a few days before receiving the letter. You can use the ID to check status online.

I just noticed that my ED decision letter has been sent out on 7th Dec and is now displayed online. Got accpeted! All the best to all you guys!

You’ve already gotten your decision BEFORE the 15th??? My WAIITP page doesn’t even say they’ve decided, let alone sent out my decision.

My boyfriend’s status online also was changed to accepted and that his letter was mailed on the 7th, but he has not received it yet. He applied in early to mid October, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Good luck to everyone else!

I’m from New Jersey and I checked my online status this morning also. I could see the decision; it was next to the college I applied to, and I got in. Good luck people!

Congrats to the accepted ones! By the way, I find it weird for you to get your decisions while I haven’t even received my WAIITP credentials. :)

congrats guys!!! I get email updates of when ppl post on here so I just sprang out of bed to read this again on my computer. Where did they post that the letter have been sent?? They haven’t posted my decision yet nor have they posted whether my letter has been sent. I would assume the letter sent part would either be in docs received or docs sent, but I just don’t see it. It may have something to do with when you guys applied because I sent my in the day of lol but they typically send out everything at once so idk. CONGRATS!!!
