But I think Bowdoin is all about balance. I suppose they want to see how have you prepared yourself to thrive in an environment that you do not just study only but also participate in other activities.

Again, it’s just my personal interpretation, I do not mean to offend anyone (sorry if I do) or raise a bitter argument. I am hoping that I am not totally wrong.

As for the supplement, it’s really up to interpretation. They ask you how your high school experience prepared you for bowdoin’s academic environment, but before that they identified what made up the academic atmosphere. That said, it’s not just academic excellence, it’s your relationship with your peers and how academics fits into the rest of your life…I hated that essay but thinking back on it, it was a good essay topic for them

Yeah, I really like the essay topic too. Did you all’s applications go through ok ? I got a little problem that a part in my additional information got cut off. I feel so stupid now and afraid that Admission Officers will count that against me

Don’t worry about it nns91. Admissions counselors know to look past trivial app mistakes. And to answer your question, mine went through without a hitch.

I submitted mine on Friday (I was afraid of last minute, overwhelmed common app hiccoughs) and everything went smoothly, no problems.

To be honest, I saw the supp question to be asking how through your academic career and your extracurricular life you have formed who you are as a student. Is that wrong? I assumed it to be an academic question that was very much about your school but also how the extracurricular balance has impacted how you approach education and academics.

To be honest nns91, the question is relatively broad. I think that the essential part to look at was “how have you prepared yourself to enter an academic environment like Bowdoin’s?” As long as you have answered the question, you should be fine!

Good luck everyone! I know that the ED1 decisions were emailed on the 13th or 15th last year… Hopefully it will be the same or sooner! I’m soo nervous.

I’m applying regular decision. I have pretty good SAT scores 690 math 690 writing 780 critical reading. But I’m 13th in my class and the valedictorian (with high SATs) is applying too! The thing is he probably will get into Harvard and not attend Bowdoin. Do you guys think I’ll still get in even though he’s applying. I’m worried about the whole diversity in location thing. I have really good extra curr. and my supplement is about one class.

JustADad2 - Officially, counselors look at your app based on qualifications, which means 2 people applying from the same school doesnt matter. But unofficially, no one really knows

Justadad - I wouldn’t worry about the valedictorian if he really is Harvard material and Bowdoin is his fall-back choice. Bowdoin is pretty good about figuring who is likely to attend and who is not and makes its admit decisions in part based on a sense of the applicant’s interest in attending Bowdoin.

Yes, dolphin! They asked for mine too. I’m glad I’m not alone haha. I don’t know what that means, but I’m hoping it’s not a bad thing. They asked for more grades later on in the day, so probably not.
