Cousin is applying EDII to Engineering.
First rate public school in the northeast well-known to Tufts. Hardest curriculum in math and science throughout HS, with 4 APs this year (including one in social studies). (School only allows one AP junior year, and the offering was of no interest so not taken.) Also took hardest foreign language courses through 11th, but then lost interest and dropped (so no AP course there). Only English was regular track 9-12.
GPA is about 3.6 (UW)
SAT 1510/1600; 2250/2400. (M 800; CR 710; W 740). SATII - Math level 2 - 800; Chem 680.
Good but not stellar ECs: some sports (no captaincy); newspaper editor (but not EIC); and some other stuff.
Recs from Math and science teachers will be top notch; they love this kid.

Those test scores are very strong (except for the SATII in Chem, which is adequate, and will probably be averaged out with the strong 800 in Math2). The 3.6 GPA is less than great, but the curriculum looks very challenging and the fact that s/he’s applying ED might help a little. (I don’t think the absence of AP English will hurt an Engineering applicant.) How has s/he done so far grade-wise with those courses?
ECs are acceptable. Great recs from math and science teachers will certainly help an engineering applicant.
Solid essays could prove important.
Good luck to him or her.
