I am looking for someone who can review my essay and edit structure, organization, and flow as well as grammar errors. Anyone knows a good editing service company? If yes, can you PM me?

You should take your essays to one of your English composition teachers, or to the Writing Workshop at your community college. The people there can help you improve them for free.

I would suggest talking to your English teacher as well. I’m not sure how helpful it is since I’ve never done it, but there are also a lot of people on CC that are willing to read and critique essays

Don’t let a high school kid review your essay. They’re in the same, inexperienced boat.

Also, the teachers who can best help with your essay are those who understand how it will be reviewed by adcoms. You don’t need to perfect a hypothesis defense; you need a personal statement that reveals some of the strengths a college looks for. Good luck.

If that was in reference to asking CC members, there are a lot of parents and college students willing to help as well. Though I do agree that I wouldn’t ask for help from other high school students

Referring to hs kids. Many adults/young adults on CC are quite good at helping. IMO, the best have some exerience with how adcoms review.

A good college counselor would be ideally the best person to review a college essay. He/she knows what works and what does not from their experience with other students’ successes or rejections. The thing about English teachers is that they are good at helping you create a good, grammatically correct essay, but it may not be the right tone or subject for a college application. There is a fine line here. Our college counselor has told me that one of our school’s English teacher encouraged a boy to send a very risky essay to a university because it was well-crafted, etc. The boy was rejected because of the subject matter. We know that because the adcom told our college counselor that that was the reason. She had advised him not to send it. Lesson learned.

Give yourself plenty of time to get these essays done. I’m shocked that people are applying to very competitive universities and writing them right up to the last minute. You need several sets of eyes to go over them. You need several weeks to go back, process, and revise.

Many kids on CC complain that they don’t get much GC support- by all means, they should find a good editor/guide on CC. Especially…especially, because here we review as strangers- just as adcoms do.

I’m sure that a large majority of people on CC are trustworthy and really do want to help, but this is a very stressful, competitive process. I would hesitate putting ANYTHING on the internet. Some people have absolutely no scruples and may not be honest in how they present themselves. Some people become desperate when under a lot of stress. I would encourage students to find people to look over their essays you can they have a face-to-face conversation with.

I’ve looked at posts from different people and there are often discrepancies in what they say. you never really know who you’re dealing with…there’s lots of good information to share and advice to give and take. For something as personal as an essay, I would try to get some direction from someone a student knows.
