It’s quite hard to make decision. Anyway I will try to apply both colleges and make the decision later. I would like to know if I apply North Seattle and got the visa, but finally I decide to go to Edmonds. Do I need to apply the student visa again? I know Bellevue College is hard to get good result. How about North Seattle and Edmonds.
How many high school completion program can count into Associate degree? Associate Degree require 90 credits.
I don’t know if you can use the same visa for different colleges. Most High School Completion courses do not count toward an Associates degree. Any course numbered below 100 does not count toward an Associate degree. Washington high schools will accept college courses as part of their high school graduation requirements, through a dual enrollment program called, ‘Running Start’. This will not work for graduating from a high school outside Washington. Some students entered college before earning a high school degree; as long as they earn an Associates and/or a Bachelors degree, the high school diploma is no longer worth much. As always, any student can take the examination to earn a General Educational Development (GED) high school equivalency diploma.
Alf, what’s your comment on Pierce College?
Pierce College is in Tacoma, a city that is about 40 miles south of Seattle. They too have an International students program, and a dorm that was specifically designed to house International students (https://www.pierce.ctc.edu/ie). I must confess that I do not have much direct knowledge of Pierce College’s programs. I have only been there a couple of times. It looks like a nice campus, but I must admit that I have never been much of a fan of the city of Tacoma. It is much smaller than Seattle, has less to offer, and much of it is gritty and industrial. Pierce College is south of Tacoma itself, in a nicer area.
Thanks Alf. Agent recommend Pierce College and Whatcom College. I worry about the safety problem. My friend told me North part of Seattle is better than South part of Seattle.
I wouldn’t be worried that South Seattle is unsafe. However, South Seattle College is more appropriate for students headed toward vocational/technical programs, as opposed to academic transfer.
Whatcom Community College is quite close to Western Washington University, so students tend to transfer there after they complete their Associates degree. Those colleges are in Bellingham, a very nice small city in between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. Whatcom has a nice campus. However I am not personally acquainted with the strength of their support for International students.
As you can see, there is a line of 2-year colleges between Olympia and Bellingham, all close to the Interstate 5 Highway.
Once again, I will put in a plug for my school, Everett Community College, on the outskirts of the small city of Everett, and only a 1-hour bus ride to downtown Seattle. Brand-new dorms and strong support for International students.
Thanks Alf, Everett is good especially the dorm. How’s the city? Will the school responsible to choose the host family for overseas students or pass it to agent for handling? Are there any bus terminals near the school or shopping mall near the college?
Thank you for the information about the Washington colleges.
Hi Alf, Do you know the percentage to UW and UCLA, Shoreline is better than Edmonds?
You worked in Shoreline Community College?
