UW Bothell or Edmonds CC?

Hey all,

I am heading towards my first year of college in September and I am having a bit of a dilemma.

I am having a dispute on whether I should attend UW Bothell or Edmonds Community College. Both are close to home and it won’t be a problem to commute whatsoever. However, I am still unsure of what kind of career I want to pursue at the moment (though, I know I would love a job that would involve interacting and helping others; it doesn’t need to pay good but i’d like to make enough to travel and stuff!).

I’ve been told by some friends to just go to UW Bothell even if i’m undecided and everything will be just fine, but I have my own little doubts due to the limited amount of majors that UW Bothell offers. Another thing that bothers me about it is that my chances to transfer to UW Seattle would be significantly lower. Don’t get me wrong, the resources that the school offers is tempting, but I have a driven fear of being left with no major that I could be interested in at UWB.

The Edmonds Community College campus isn’t as nice as UWB, but if it means getting an education I definitely won’t mind it. In truth, I actually plan to transfer to Shoreline CC after a year at Edmonds (since edcc wasn’t my primary choice for CC). Though I feel like I could be missing out on a lot of great things that UWB offers, I feel that going the Community College route would give me more openings and not limited ones. Not to mention, I would definitely be striving to transfer to UW Seattle if I do go this path.

All in all, UWB has tempted me to enroll because of its great resources and a nice campus, but the limited majors and the very small chance of transferring to UW Seattle worries me a good amount.

Edmonds Community College may not shine as much as UWB, but i’d feel that I have more exploration of choices to fall in this way. However, I feel that I could be missing out on the great resources UWB offers; and would missing out impact me in any way?

I don’t mean to make it sound like I favor one school or the other, I am without a doubt in a dilemma of what path to take and what would be best for a boy that is still unsure of what career to fall in and is ready to make a commitment to doing well in college.

What about Cascadia College?

If you prefer Shoreline to Edmonds, just start at Shoreline if you can. I’m also baffled as to why you aren’t considering Cascadia.

Washington Council puts out a guide on all the colleges in the state. The whole first section of the guide compares and contrasts what is available at different community colleges.
