EDs.. how do you guys feel??

I sent in my EDs two days ago.

How do you guys feel after sending out your applications?

I have this weird feeling, sort of a mix of nervousness and excitement.
Now all that's left is waiting..

It's hard to even wait for my application ID!..

Well good luck to everyone!
Hope all goes well..

I feel a little bit nervous and worried about my low SAT which is 670/760/690. Although I'm a non-English speaker international stuent, SAT might be low.

About how long does it take to recieve an application ID?

I've pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm either going to get deferred or rejected (and I think I'm the only one, I'm sick of hearing the "you'll get in" jackass comments). It's not that I don't feel confident about my application, it's just who I'm "competing" against in my school. This one girl went was invited to the campus for a women's basketball recuriting event, and is now telling everyone that she "got into Columbia" because the coach really wants her.

Even though I don't play sports and I'm a guy, I still feel like if the adcom is comparing two applicants from a school (sports recruit versus me), they'll take the sports recruit.

I dont think they'll compete you against a sport recuite lol.. thats just plain cruel. you should be more worried if someone applying from your school that has better grades, similiar activities and interests, similiar background and better test scores.. thats where competition really gets ugly.
and as mentioned before, while sports recruites do have an advantage in the admission process, it is in no way a garantee, the adcom can overide a coach's decision if the candidate isnt up to ivy standard.

relax for the next month and half and focus on your senior year.

as for me.. I'm counting on a deferal..

I know some of the information I put on this board is antedotal; however, antedotal occurances do occur more than once. In my son's case, in his graduating class of 79 kids, 1 got into SEAS and 2 into CC. Nobody from his school had ever attended Columbia. I've heard of many incidences where multiple kids are accepted from the same high school. I wouldn't worry about "competing" with your class members. You're really competing with the kids in your geographic region.

For those of you who will be deferred (although I hope everyone on CC gets in on the first round), all is definitely not lost. Please, please continue to stay in touch with your regional rep (and cc all to the admissions committee) by sending additional accomplishments, a poem, a song, another essay, etc. and convey your continued interest in attending Columbia and what you plan to bring to the school. I think most kids after deferral just wait/pray for the best in the RD round, but being proactive will be to your advantage. Columbia (and most school for that matter) is interested in yield and if they know they're still you're number 1 in the RD round, they'll definitely take note of that. Good luck.
