Hi Natalie,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Queen’s University prides itself on a tradition of academic excellence. Queen’s is one of Canada’s leading universities with an international reputation for scholarship, social purpose, and spirit. We have been ranked among the top 200 universities in the world in the 2011 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and we continually score more ‘A’s’ of any Canadian University for student satisfaction, quality of education, national reputation, libraries and campus atmosphere and we have been ranked #1 for student retention and graduation rate out of all Canadian universities in the Globe and Mail University Report Card.

In terms of comparisons to other universities, we encourage students to research the universities individually and to refer to university reviews and rankings from nationally or internationally acclaimed sources.
The class sizes at Queen’s vary depending on the program a student is studying as well as the level at which they are studying. First year Arts courses may have classes 300 students large, while fourth year students in the same program may have classes as small as 15 students in a seminar course. Students studying at the Herstmonceux Castle program are in classes that are capped at 30 students.
Professors at Queen’s are accessible to students through a number of avenues. Professors often hold office hours several times throughout the week when students are encouraged to come and speak with them. Many professors will also allow students to schedule appointments to speak with them and students also have opportunities to socialize with professors at events organized by the department students’ council. Often times, professors will also have teaching assistants (Masters or PhD students whom they are supervising) who facilitate tutorials and study sessions for students.

All the best,
